What's the deal with gauchos???

Is anyone into gauchos? They look soooo cute on the models (of course)! They make me look very "hip-py"! Are there different variations of gauchos to flatter different figures?

boarderchick 02-02-2006 02:15 AM

Are gauchos back in??? I remember them from the 70's!

josie4 02-02-2006 07:37 AM

Yes, the're back in. I've seen them on people, and wondered what they were called!

Linds81 02-02-2006 05:07 PM

I'm sorry... lol i'm incredibly stupid... I googled what a gaucho is and got a sports team... What is a gaucho???

Suzanne 3FC 02-02-2006 05:15 PM

Google gaucho pants and you'll get more results. They are like wide leg pants that are cut off just below the knee. I strongly dislike them

Suzanne you are too funny! :)

1dayatatime 02-02-2006 06:20 PM

Are they actually calling them gauchos? I had a brain twitch when I saw what was now a "capri"

I will never wear gauchos. Horrible idea for me! I like skirts, I like trousers, so thought these might be OK. I'm obviously not slim, but I like to wear slimming styles. Not Gauchos!

boarderchick 02-02-2006 07:48 PM

I think capris are tapered, and gauchos are wide-legged (and quite ugly, in my opinion, especially on me). Ewww.

Linds81 02-02-2006 08:31 PM

Hahaha thanks for enlightening me as to what a gaucho is... Now that I'm seeing them, I'm not a fan. But then again I'm not really big on capris.

almostheaven 02-02-2006 08:56 PM

They're back in?!?! Uh oh, time for me to call mom and spread the news. That woman's been into gauchos since she turned to Christianity (the kind that believes women should always wear dresses) when I was 13. She can't seem to find them anymore though and has been wearing the same ones for years.

sjdphc 02-02-2006 10:04 PM

The verdict is in! I find gauchos guilty of not being very flattering! I wonder what the next fashion trend will be? While I'm on the subject of fashion, I just want to say that if I see another sequined bag or those sequined ballerina flats (shoes), I'm going to vomit! With everyone here wearing all that shiny, shimmer, bling-bling is enough to cause an epileptic seizure!!!

flipafart 02-02-2006 10:07 PM

oh gosh I have been there before dang and I thought I was so cool, I think I will pass this time time around but if they ever go back to those who wear short shorts nah I better pass on that too lol

DeafinlySmart 02-02-2006 10:08 PM

I'd rather those than low riders. OMG. Who forgot that at least 1/2 the population, if not more, have BELLIES that hang out of them. Can you find regular pants. Not really.

healthyme05 02-02-2006 11:32 PM

I thought I was the only one that looks horrible in gauchos. At 5'4" they make me look much shorter and than I am. I do like the flowing aspect, but I think they might be better suited for very tall and very slim women.

crk05 02-03-2006 07:11 AM

Ughhhh....gauchos...

I am a tall(ish) slim(ish) woman and those kind of pants still would make my rear end look HUGE. I have seem very few people carry them off successfully. I am waiting impatiently for this trend to be over...

Yeah, but I was actually referring to clam diggers(or petal pushers) being called capris. They are not capris...they are clam diggers or petal pushers. It just seems that anytime there was a "short pant" it was a capri and it would just floor me everytime I saw it. See here...

Are culottes (a short gaucho) coming back too?

I don't know about the clothing styles, but I got wrapped up in looking at the PRICES! LOL

BeingMe 02-03-2006 10:43 AM

No to gauchos! *LOL*

TribeFan 02-03-2006 11:11 AM

I can't believe they're back in. My hips are way too big to even think about wearing them. I saw a very skinny girl in a store wearing them and she looked really cute. They're definitely not for me though!

FrouFrou 02-03-2006 12:54 PM

I actually LOVE them! Love they way they look with boots. Unfortunately, with my figure...ICK! They would look horrible on me so all I can do is admire them in the catalogs. I actually haven't seen anyone wear them except on t.v. which seems odd.

chicagoposter 02-03-2006 01:02 PM

not to be vulgar, but i'm surprised no one mentioned the camel toe factor that goes with the knit ones.! if you think visible thongs are bad with low rise pants, camel toe with knit gauchos are ten times worse. :nono:

mocha74 02-05-2006 01:14 PM

I can't do the gauchos :( I don't look good in them.

RobinW 02-05-2006 04:23 PM

I used to wear them all the time with my boots........but that was a LONG time ago!! To me, its a trend that came and went, and should have stayed went!!!

kykaree 02-06-2006 03:30 PM

Oh how embarrassing. I have never heard of gauchos! But browsing the picture that Suzanne posted all I can say is thanks very much.

The GAP short trousers I bought for the gym can only described as.........gauchos!!!! I've been wearing them for months now and I love them. I always suspected I was deeply uncool, now here's the evidence.

Sigh, where are Queer Eye for the Straight Gal when you need em??? Or perhaps Trinny and Susannah will rescure me????

Rosario 02-06-2006 03:47 PM

I love gauchos. Especially the soft cotton ones. Forget the flattering part, they are oh-so comfortable. I think I'm going to pick up a pair in every color. Never mind the fact that they only look really good on the slim ones, Comfort is #1 in my book. Who really cares what other people think??!!

happytx 02-06-2006 04:11 PM

Well I love them, I have a nice black pair, I wear the with my high healed black boots, just love them, and for me thats all that matters, as long as I feel good, I know I look good! :-) But with all fashion to each their own!

Idealperson 02-07-2006 04:03 PM

I actually have a pair and I love them...I bought them at JC Penney's. They are a stretchy cotton material with a metallic belt/tie. I wear them with a layered looking T and knee high boots. I am 5'7" and I need to lose 25#-but I do get compliments when I wear this outfit.

I wear capris all summer...I love them too!:flow2:
