Bonfire/Fishfry

I'm going to a Fish Fry/ Bonfire Saturday and need a side dish or Dessert recipe that I won't be afraid to eat (meaning not loaded with calories and fat!) I know realistically I will eat everything there....but want something there good for me and that tastes good so I have better options.

Thanks!!

Pat - how about baked apples? Figure an apple is only about 80 calories, plus some cinnamon (17 cal/tsp) and brown sugar (15 cal/loose tsp) - you have a yummy smelling (and tasting) dessert that is maybe 100 calories.

If it is as chilly is Illinois as it is here, a warm dessert should go over well.

What about veggies and a fat free dip or salsa for a side dish, and some kind of sugar free jello or sugar free pudding dessert? www.jello.com has tons of recipie ideas.

I don't know how risky you are, but here is a low-fat tofu cheescake recipe. My mom made it once and it was delicious, although I think hers had ricotta cheese in it as well.

Fat Free/sugar free hot chocolate in a thermos (or tea) - can keep your mouth busy after the apple and cheesecake ;)

Thanks for the ideas! Thinking the apples sound good...maybe it's because I'm sitting here at work freezing (even with the space heater blowing on my legs...) and warm apples sound real good! Will check out Jelllo's page too! :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

for me id put this in a tupperware container..i container of vanilla lowfat/non fat yogut and mix it with grapes bananas apple and either a little bit of granola or walnuts for crunch. if you eat it first then you wont have much room for anything else..but i eat this all the time for an after dinner treat..tasty!!

The baked apples sound really good, I might have to try that myself!

The baked apples sound reeeeally good...but the first thing I thought of with a fish fry is coleslaw!
