Self Tanning

  • Hoping I can get some input on self-tanning products. I'm fair skinned and already have the "age spots" thing going on. I don't want to blind anyone with my legs in shorts. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  • I love Neutrogena Instant Bronze foam. It's a bronzer and self tanner in 1. I've been using it for about 1 month and I always get compliments on my "tan"
  • I use the stuff year round
I use Bain De Soleil http://www.baindesoleil.com/radiance.asp I read about it on epinions.com If you type in Self tanning in the search box at epinions.com, you'll get all sorts of information from people who have used all sorts of tanners.

The main thing I like about the Bain de Soleil is I don't turn orange. I am a very fair skinned Swede so I am nearly translucent. This also helps even out my skin tone. I don't use this so much for a "tan" but to look like I'm not an albino.
  • Hey Thanks! Best way to find out about products is from you gals!
  • Have you checked out the latest in tanning at the salons? The UV free sprays. They usually go under th ename of Mystic tan or similar. You can do a search on Google for the Mystic tan and read up about it. Basically, you enter a room and keep your eyes closed while you are completely sprayed with a tanning solution. It lasts about a week.
  • I''d have to do some checking around the area. I live in a town of 6,500 and if they did have it, it would probably be $200. Sure would be a lot easier. Makes me think of that Friend's episode where Ross goes in one for tanning! He kept turning around at the wrong time and ended up with only his front side sprayed. It was pretty funny..
  • $200?!? It runs around $30 a session here. And while they say it last about a week or so, mine went for about 2 weeks.
  • The spray booths are great, they run about $30 here too! My daughter got sprayed right before graduation and I did it right before our vacation. No tan lines and it did last about 2 weeks. Other than that i like the Neutrogena and one by Mary Kay. This year I decided to just go lay in a tanning bed...I am nicely tanned and I get to relax at the same time...aaahhhh!
  • If they have the high pressure beds where you go Ideal, you should try them. They don't have any of the burning rays that the regular or super/turbo beds have. Plus, I discovered, because my husband likes to point these things out LOL, lying with my buns pressed into the bed, I got some white spots and white lines between the buttocks and thighs, where they scrunched up on the bed. High pressure beds tan you on one side only, then partway through, you turn over. Like lying in the sun. I've tried them in 2 places. One was a 24 minute bed. The ones I use now are 30 minutes. I spend 15 minutes on each side. They have a timer to let you know when to turn over. You'll get a deeper tan with them.

And be sure to use a lot of lotion afterward, no matter which bed you use. Gotta keep the skin soft and supple.
  • I've heard great things about Jergens Natural Glow. It has just enough self tanner in it to not leave you orange or streaky. I'm going to get some next time I'm at the store
  • I've used SO many of the self-tanners for the past 16 years...I also liked Neutrogena Bronzer...but then tried a sample packet of SUN Laboratories Ultra Dark tanning lotion (got it online). It was a big initial investment! - 32 ounces for...gulp....$40.00. But I love it because it gives color instantly, then it deepens; it dries QUICKLY, and no unpleasant smell (my husband used to say that I smelled like photo developing chemicals)

This huge bottle will hopefully last a long, long time.

btw ladies, laughing at all your descriptions of our pale skin

For lots of great hints on applying sunless tanners, there are discussion forums online that cover just that subject!

Idealperson!!!! we are just destined to be friends again!!! yes, I'm still at The Old Fashioned Way thread, plus Chick on Motorcycles
  • for 6.99 you can get some EXCELLENT self tanning lotion from AVON. Hope it helps! Oh, and you can check it out on AVON.com.
  • I'm using Jergens Natural glow right now, and I love it! I'm fair skin & I'm using the one for med. - dark skin & it looks great - no streaks. Just watch your toes & knees....I got too much on mine, but I fixed it (quickly!) with nail polish remover.
