Hairdos for Fatchicks

Any suggestions for how to wear hair for chubby faces? I looked in a plus sized magazine and it was all matronly or long and pulled up.

I have short hair - about 3 inches long all over and I am trying to grow it out to about shoulder length. Right now my hair is a MESS. It is too long to spike and too short to pull up.

Suzanne 3FC 09-19-2004 09:05 AM

Good question! I don't have any suggestions, though, you know what my hair looks like! I'm afraid to get it done. I think every hairdresser in Tennessee studied at the Loretta Lyne School of Beauty  I ALWAYS come out looking like a country western singer from the 70s.

Have you thought about going curly? http://www.beautifulhairstyles.com/ Scroll down to the pic of Chrstina Aguilera, and her short curls. I think something like that would look good on you, though you'd need to grow it out more :)

yearninforsomeburnin 09-19-2004 10:11 AM

no clue sry, i dont really have a chubby face its rather barrow, so i just do lots of dif hairstyles

Jennifer 3FC 09-19-2004 10:50 AM

I feel for you, Loretta. In my growing out stage I went from Rodney Dangerfield to Yugioh (says Cody).
The haircut looks great on Christina, but on me, ridiculous. It's a little too poofy.
Maybe something like that, but not quite so enthusiastic. I've thought about doing the long curly do in my avatar again. I think that is why my avatar isn't updated with the current hair. I miss my old hair, but it was too high maintenence. Oh yeah, that is another requirement. I need to be able to fix it in one minute or less! Maybe I'll just razor it all over again.

To Do or Not to Do

Hello Spike, Loretta, and yearnin!

I've been looking into this very thing myself, since I'm long overdue for a haircut and also have changed shape since losing a bit of weight. (My last [paid for] haircut was before I started to live on plan in March, so my hair is just CRAZY now. :dizzy: I've just been hacking away at my bangs so I can see!) What I've read is that for a chubby face, the recommended do involves layers and a shorter length, so that you don't have too much volume on the sides, and also so your neck isn't lost altogether. It's supposed to give a "lightening" impression. :dunno:

Jennifer 3FC 09-19-2004 09:40 PM

Kinda like these? From left to right, numbers 1,2,3 and 7.

lessofsarahtolove 09-19-2004 10:08 PM

Yeah! Kinda like those! And thanks for that link -- I was wondering when that show was coming back on! :)

Have you come to any decisions, or are you still in the investigative phase of the decision-making process?

Jennifer 3FC 09-19-2004 10:32 PM

No decisions yet...I'm thinking about just going to my hairdresser and say DO SOMETHING! She knows me enough by now that I don't want anything too conservative. I had long hair for so long. I went with a picture of Sharon Osbourne and came out looking like Princess Diana. Love her, not her 1986 hair. We wound up going back 3 days in a row until we got it right. I was going for the Joy Behar look, but I think that will be just a little too much primping for me.

Leenie 09-21-2004 09:13 AM

How about a mullet ? :s:

Short around the ears, not poofy and long in the back. What ever you do, DO NOT get a Mo cut or is that bowl cut.

Jennifer 3FC 09-21-2004 09:46 AM

MULLET! Leave it to you to come up with that one. I actually used to have one, kinda. It wasn't really one. But my curly hair was short on top and longer in back. It didn't even look like one, but I suppose technically it could have been one. As soon as I realized it, I grew it all out. Do you think people with mullets know what they're called, and how much people make fun of them? I have to say the day I realized what one was and noticed my slightly unbalanced hair, things changed. How come there's still tons of them, including on my ex-husband? Do people not care?

lessofsarahtolove 09-21-2004 09:54 AM

Ignorance truly is bliss.

Mullets! :lol3: I'll be chuckling about this for the rest of the day....it's the small pleasures, really. ;)

Leenie 09-21-2004 11:25 AM

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. You know I had that Do in the 80's and never realized it until a few years ago. I just had the hair cut around my ears so I could show off my double ear piercings...sheesh ;)

Ignorance truly is bliss <--- you ain't kidding :lol3:

How about some dreadlocks :fr:

I think dreads are cool! :) Those were great links, Leenie -- thanks for sharing them!

Look at my avatar... I went in with a pic of Jennifer Aniston!! :?:

Great links, Leenie!

FrugalChick 09-23-2004 08:33 PM

So you'd like to go flat (straight) then, right? Is that your picture to the left there? (you're a cutie! :) ) My brother's GF straightened my hair when they came down for a visit (with a flat iron doohickey) and I really liked it. Made me feel all sexy and slim...so maybe you should go straight. It took her a good 25 minutes to straighten my hair though because it's so thick. Good luck in whatever you decide :dizzy:

Jennifer 3FC 09-25-2004 12:01 AM

Yes Frugal, I'm thinking about going straight. The curls in the pic are a perm, and they've long grown out. My hair doesn't go straight too well when it gets long. It just waves up, but in the bad-kind-of-messy way. I'm hoping a shoulder length-do might do the trick. Whew, 25 minutes for straightening! BTW, are you anywhere near Jekyll Island?

FrugalChick 09-25-2004 08:06 AM

 On the going straight thing--heehee.

I'm the same way...with my hair (well, other ways too... :dizzy: ). I got a perm when I was 13 and my hair has never been the same again. Do you remember Reba's hair and Reece Witherspoons hair styles last year? The short whispy look? Well, I tried going for THAT and she kept it long so I could pull it up if need be. It looked pretty great--but now it's grown out. So when my bro's GF straightened my hair, it looked kind of bad in the back. LOL Now I don't know if I want to even it out so it can be straightened and look awesome or if I want to go short and wispy again...

Oh, about the J.I. thing. Sort of. I live about 45 min south of Brunswick in Camden County. Do you live in J.I.? (Can you believe these hurricanes?!?!) :(

Jennifer 3FC 09-27-2004 10:55 PM

I live in Tennessee, Frugal Chick. We have relatives that live in Brunswick and I used to go to J.I. 2-3 times a year. Feels just like home, but it's sad to go back as an adult because I miss being a kid at the beach. I heard that the island has built up quite a bit over the last few years. I haven't been there in about 5 years or so.

FrugalChick 09-28-2004 07:08 AM

IT's always sad to go home as an adult, because it never really feels *quite* like home.

mauvaisroux 09-28-2004 07:27 AM

Jennifer - if your hair is now straight how about a style just above the shoulders with long layers cut into it that flip out at the bottom and have face framing bangs that fall around the eye area.

I have a style like that and I love it. It works well since I find it makes my face look slimmer and the bangs soften the look.

It only takes me 10 minutes to blow dry my hair in the morning with a large rounded brush to turn the bangs inward and the bottom ends outward and then I just put a tiny, tiny bit of shine liquid to smooth out any strands. The style stays for 2 days so I can leave it and only have to wash my hair every second day. :)

Jennifer 3FC 09-28-2004 10:19 AM

Sounds easy! I'll know for sure as soon as soon as you unpack that scanner! :D

mauvaisroux 09-29-2004 07:38 AM

You'll be waiting for at least 3 weeks for that, although I am sure the computer and scanner are the first things DH will be setting up...well that an the tv/dvd equipment

Jennifer 3FC 09-29-2004 11:34 PM

I went today to get my haircut, and my stylist wasn't there! She had to leave suddenly, her son was sick. I'm rescheduled for tomorrow as long as she is back to work. I dunno what I'm going to do. I think I'll just tell her to have at it.

FrugalChick 09-30-2004 07:49 AM

I hope she does a good job when she 'has at it' :)

Jennifer 3FC 10-05-2004 10:24 PM

Well she had issues that day and although I had a picture of my goal hair, which requires growing about 4 inches, I came out with about 2 inches gone. Hmmm. This is the problem with having a good friend for a stylist! She was having huge personal issues so I can't really be upset with her. It just better not happen again or else :sumo:.
