Melissa McCarthy lost 50lbs!

She's such a favorite of mine and I love her style and pizazz! Who knows if she'll come out as a spokesperson for some weightloss program however she mentioned that she did it by "not worrying about it" it over analyzing it. I love it!

I understand you're excited because of the kind of intuitive eating stance, but I hate that this is even a topic (of conversation, not on the board!) I wish she could just lose weight if that's what she wanted or what happened, and not have people constantly comment about it. I mean, that goes for any celebrity. Or any person.

But I'm being sensitive :)

I know what you mean. She must be under a lot of pressure and I love how she handled the questioning. Classy.

I love Melissa McCarthy. She is hilarious, regardless of how much she weighs.

Agree! She's hands down my FAVORITE actor!

Hubby and I just watch Identity Theft last night and were talking about her. We both think she's a terrific actress, funny and talented. We were saying that of the movies we've seen her in, she always seem to play someone rough and unkempt. At the part of Identity Theft when she comes to dinner made over, my husband and I were both like 'ok now she looks like herself". We also watch Mike and Molly. Anyway I don't know if we are looking too deeply into it, but we felt that she has been limited to those roles because of her weight, which is ashame. We both agreed she is a very beautiful and funny actress and wished they'd offer her a role were she isn't playing off the "fat and dumpy looking" character. Again maybe we are over thinking it.

I love Melissa McCarthy as well and think she looks lovely regardless of weight. But I do agree that she seems to be stereotyped in the same role. I know she's a comedian but I would love to see her branch out a bit.

In her new movie "Spy" (which I have not yet seen) there is a clip they show on tv where she is talking to a guy (presumably about spying) and the guy says something to her, in a scornful tone like "What are YOU going to do, seduce him?" and she replies "Why is that so unbelievable?" (or something to that effect) Just another example of "Fat girls" being viewed as "no possible way someone would be attracted to you!"

I agree I'd love to see her branch out but she also has capitalized on the fat girl comedy. Not sure if that's a mode of empowerment or a perpetuation of the stereotype. I sense that she is heavily involved in the conception and production of these comedies though. A lot of comedians do get pegged in one type of comedic performance and she does what she does very well. I don't know how to feel about that or if it's up to us to feel anything at all on her behalf. I just love her anyway.
