What does love mean to you? Song Version

  • Hey. I know that this site is all about learning to love yourself and your body. We sweat to the oldies, pop and lock to the beat, and shake it to songs from around the world to transform ourselves into a form we will love. Songs can make us dance, exercise, laugh, cry, love, hate, or connect. So I was wondering what songs people think best represent love-for ourselves, others, true love, self-expression or whatever their definition of love is.

My POV of love: it is companionship, loyalty, trusting another above all else that they will not hurt or abandon you. That they are a safe place to bare yourself, your soul, your heart, and not fear. In the space of romantic love, it also is a place that you can have passion, heat, and let yourself go without judgment, and met back with matching feelings.

So to me, these are my top ten songs that represent love (for right now):
    1) ”Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” by Tanya Tucker
    2) ”No Matter What” by Papa Roach
    3) “I Wanna Be Loved Like That” by Shenandoah
    4) “I’d Come For You” by Nickelback
    5) “One Honest Heart” by Reba McEntire
    6) "Back To Life" by My Excellence
    7) “What the Heart Wants” by Colin Raye
    8) “As Long As You Love Me” by Justin Bieber feat. Big Sean
    9) “Born to Be My Baby” by Bon Jovi (both versions, though the slower one is a bit better)
    10) Three way tie:
    -“Real Life Fairytale” By Plumb
    - Most Josh Groban Songs (ex: “When you say love me,” “You Are Loved,” “In Her Eyes”)
    -“Some Hearts” by Carrie Underwood

    Honorable Mentions:
"Ain't no Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
“Thinking of you” by Christian Kane
“Song 2 You” by Leon Thomas & Victoria Justice
    "Heartbreaker" by Pink
"Power of Love" from Sailor Moon

So What are your top ten? Why?
  • While not in the spirit of the OP, my DH paid for the new tires for my car!

The first time in 36 years of marriage he actually gave crap about my car. IN the past, his deal was, you drive it, you take care of it. I taught you how.

Guess my *****ing about how other hubby's take a bit more care and concern about their wives paid off.

Just because I know or can, does not mean I don't want you to step up and be the MAN!

Sheesh, I do all the wifey stuff, step up, and do the "manly" stuff!
  • Of all the love songs out there, these are the three that really get to me:

    3. You Are So Beautiful--Joe Cocker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpgY5S3AcSw

    2. Wonderful Tonight--Eric Clapton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUSzL2leaFM

    1. Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman--Bryan Adams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeEFHJFUbEg
  • I'll always have a special place in my heart for Unchained Melody. My husband held me close and sang this to me when we were first dating. Makes me cry every time I hear it.
  • Hi, I like this thread. I love Unchained Melody, What About Love, Holding out for a Hero, I Knew You Were Waiting for Me and many other ballads. Love songs are fun but sometimes I get emotional listening to them.

    Sigh.
  • I'm going to have to offer another point of view to this…

These are all songs, in chronological order, that remind me of one particular person whom I love dearly. I guess it's obvious from the selection how that went. Still, romantic love is always going to have pain and aching involved as well, sooner or later.

Florence + The Machine - Spectrum (Say My Name)(Calvin Harris Remix)

    Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments

Massive Attack - Live With Me (the song reminds me of him and the video reminds me of the life I used to live before he came along with his deeply loving heart)

John Newman - Love Me Again

Essentially, I messed things up, but I don't see how I would've been able to not mess things up with my past. After that experience though, I'll never take love and affection for granted again.
