Couple days late, but please share with us what you are reading this month.

I just started Bared to You

Just kind of eh so far, but I'm thinking it will get better. =)

For some reason, after reading murder mysteries for, oh about 50 years, lol, I have gotten "hooked" on novels involving the ocean - the deep south -- families who live there. I have gone thru all the Dorthea Benton Frank my local library has; recently "discovered" Anne Rivers Seddon, I think is her name (I'm typing at work, so I don't have it close by). I would LOVE hearing the waves and seagulls -- ahh, that would be bliss!

I'm reading a super book called How Children Succeed by Paul Tough. I wasn't expecting to like it so much since I don't have any children to worry about, but it's covering lots of great things about psychology, sociology, and education -- some of them very surprising.

Thanks for starting the thread, Smiling_Sara! It's one of my favorites.

GardenerJoy I have heard that book is awesome!

I just finished A Hundred Summers, and it was great. It was a lovely cap to the end of summer. I am about to pick up The Power of Habit... becuase I have some pretty crappy ones taking control over my life right now! :)

If you like historical fiction, I just finished three books in the last month by Kate Mosse. I just finished Citadel over the weekend.

I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (such an awesome book) and am now reading Diary of a Fat Housewife: A True Story of Humor, Heartbreak, and Hope by Rosemary Green.

Only able to squeeze in one book at a time as of late. Started reading Mockingjay, and am dreading the movie. I know I'll be a crying fool. :(

Still halfway through the fifth book in the, 'A song of Ice and fire' series.

Wish my college books weren't so big!

I just finished A Casual Vacancy (JK Rowling) and haven't decided what to read next. So many books, so little time!

I just finished State of Wonder by Ann Patchett and liked it a lot until about the last 40 pages... Hmmm... Hate when that happens. I'm on the lookout for something new to read while on the treadmill. I'll keep my eyes on this thread for ideas!

I'm in the middle of "The Supremes at Earl's-All-You-Can-Eat"

alinnell - You must read her new book A Cuckoos Calling. She wrote it under a pseudonym Robert Galbraith. I am hoping she plans to make it a series.

I'm currently reading When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times by Pema Chodron.

I'm currently reading Single, Sassy and Satisfied.
It's proving to be an amazing book on the biblical view on why it's okay to stop sitting around waiting on someone to complete you, but to live your life on your own and love every minute of it. The rest will take care of itself.

I'm reading Airtight by David Rosenfelt. I'm half-way through after one day. An easy read for sure, but it is interesting.

Does anyone else have this same problem that I have?

I used to go to brick and mortar book stores and peruse the selections. I'd read jacket covers and base my book buying on that and only that.

Then I got a Kindle.

Now I do most of my perusing at Amazon and instead of basing my selection solely on the book description I've started to read the reviews. And now a bad review mixed in with lots of good reviews is enough for me to not get the book.

A few months back there was a book that I was considering. Lots of good reviews but a couple bad ones. I didn't buy it. Then I was on a trip and a fellow traveler was reading the book. I asked if she liked it. She said she did. So I bought the book and I loved it!

How do I stop reading the reviews and go back to my old ways? Even Saturday I was at a brick and mortar store and found two books that I've been meaning to buy. I went home and went straight to the reviews and decided not to buy them! Gah! Help! (BTW those two books were "Where Did you go, Bernadette?" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns." What do you all think of those if you've read them?

I still go to the used book store. I'm reading, Not Taco Bell Material by Adam Corolla. Hilarious but off color (if that bothers folks) it doesn't bother me. I tend to have a stack that I read from. The Quarter Acre Farm by Spring Warren and The King's Speech by Mark Louge and Peter Conradi are both books I'm in progress of reading. Good books all. And I'm almost finished with the September issue of Vouge.

Just finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry for my bookclub. It is wonderful.

I just finished Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison. Wow. What a book. I think it ought to be required reading for any teenager that even thinks of doing drugs.

Now I'm starting W is of Wasted.

For those of using reading e-books, check your local library. Some of them have e-books these days, free for a duration of time just like regular library books.

I'm reading Clean by David Sheff. It's about drug addiction, but after reading Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss, I'm recognizing ways that it maps on to overeating as well.

I've read 7 books so far this month. I apparently have no life. And, I discovered an absolutely amazing series that I couldn't put down.

If you like adult paranormal/fantasy, check out the Fever series from Karen Marie Moning.

My local library offers e-books as well. All the libraries in the county have a big pool of e-books available.

I'm half-way through Snow Crash, planning on starting Alice in Wonderland after.

I also am into Bad Dog (biography) and Every Patient Tells A Story (medical)

They are both great books!

I'm enjoy the fantasy YA novel Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore.

I just finished Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Loved it! It's a true story about a troubled woman's lone journey along the Pacific Crest Trail and the many struggles and triumphs she has along the way.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is excellent. If you live in California and/or are familiar with the small racetracks there you'll really like it for the car stuff. I liked it for that and the fact it was "written" by a dog. Good book.

I LOVED the book!I loved the dynamic of how it was written. I'm in Saskatchewan, Canada. I didn't really notice the car stuff, I noticed more the emotion the "Dog" put into those parts of the book.

Moving_Forward: I've heard lots of good things about Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It's been optioned for a movie by Reese Witherspoon's production company.

luciddepths: great list of books! I enjoyed The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. I'll have to check out the others. Have you read Code Name Verity? Given your list of books, I think it's one you would like.

I'm still reading Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore. It's a thick book but I've been racing through it.

I just finished Bad Dog: A Love Story, it is a great book. I plan to go to the library again soon.

i have been reading james patterson's 'womens murder club' books. i am currently reading 7th heaven, after finishing the 6th target. before these, i read the series 'hot flash club' by nancy thayer. loved those!!

I haven't read that! but ill add it to my "good reads" account so i can read it. Do any of you use good reads?

I keep switching books lately, i just need to focus. I also was peeking through "vengeance" the story about Munich and the Olympics.

At my book club, I just read "How to make an American quilt"

I didn't HATE it, but I sure didn't love it.
