Wedding rings!
 

I cannot for the life of me find a larger wedding ring. i need like a 10.5 or higher We cannot afford diamonds in the sizes I like so were looking for white sapphire cause its strong like a diamond and white gold just 10k anyclue where i can get one from???? :?:

I would advise against a white sapphire. They just look like really bad quality diamonds. Very cloudy not as much sparkle. You'd be better off getting a yellow sapphire and telling everyone it is a yellow diamond (as those are much more popular right now) or a blue/pink sapphire ala princess Kate.

you can customize diamond rings to meet your budget or look at some of the gemstone rings. You can also look at "recently purchased rings" and sort by price to get some ideas. Even though they may not list a certain size, their customer service is amazing and they could probably make a 10.5 happen.

I have a few rings from Diamond Nexus that I get compliments on all the time. They're simulated diamonds and nobody can tell.

Keep in mind that losing weight will also cause your fingers to shrink a lot. My engagement ring/wedding band are size 8 and they fall right off now. I wear a 5.5 :(. I'm waiting until things settle down to buy something new/more permanent. I wear a stainless steel band for now.

I was gonna also suggest to wait until you're done losing weight before you go fancy with rings because you never know what size your fingers will be. I am a 6.5 right now and was a 9 at my heaviest and they can only re-size so much without ruining the ring, you know?

Don't spend too much on rings right now! My ring finger shrunk from 7.5 to 5.5 and it's going to cost $300 to get my rings resized as they are complicated. Currently I wear them on my middle finger!

The diamond is a US standard but in being so, they are way too common. You could look at European wedding rings to get an idea of other options. I looked at some Irish ones for a while because they are pretty cool and my husband is Irish. Any jeweller can size a ring for you but not all rings can be sized up. A jeweller would give you that advice. The jeweller we used said they would size my ring for free once but I haven't done it yet.

Gemvara http://www.gemvara.com/ would be a good option. You could get a gemstone engagement ring and matching and for under $1k. You could also custom make a ring there. Also, although they say 10 is their biggest size, I'd call them and talk to them, I'm sure they could do 10.5

I agree to go with something simulated until you finish losing weight. It'll give you time to save up, plus you can make it your goal gift to yourself!

I'm only commenting on the finger size thing...I must have freakish hands. Whether I've been a size 22 (pants) or 6 (pants as well) my ring size has always been a 4.5:shrug: I've also never lost weight in my feet either always a size 8...

I'm jealous of all of you thin fingered folk! My ring size has stayed pretty consistent (size 8) regardless of weight (except at the end of my pregnancy when everything was swollen).

OP: Sorry, I have no suggestions, just wishing you the best of luck! At least your fiance wants to get you a diamond... my DH is dead set against them and has told me that I should never expect one from him (he says other gems are ok, but he thinks diamonds are a waste of money and doesn't care what I think).

Thanks for all the advice everyone! We are gonna wait till I lose weight to get a ring. We were gonna have to wait anyways till we had the cash but we will prolly wait even longer now so I can lose weight. I have rings that i wore during Christmas that no longer fit me :(

Sorry to keep the off-topic going... but MissKrissy -- there's nothing wrong with buying diamonds for yourself... When it became clear that no amount of hinting was going to result in diamond stud earrings from my DH, I got them myself the next time I had a monetary windfall.

Awww, sorry to hear about the ill-fitting rings! Having my wedding rings become absolutely too tight was a big motivator for me in deciding to lose weight. I'm sure you'll end up with something gorgeous when the time for shopping comes.

Amen to synthetic diamonds! I had real in my first ring, but when it was lost and we needed a replacement the insured value was appraised too low, so we were short about 7k compared to the cost of the ring. Thus, we bought the center stone and setting, and had the jeweler temporarily put in synthetics for my side stones. He was horrified by it, being a high end jeweler, and by the end he grudgingly admitted they looked excellent and passed muster for him - if he hadnt known they were synthetic he would not have been able to tell them apart from the matched pair of natural diamonds were were originally looking at (before the kerfuffle with the price)!

I still want naturals back in my ring, but in the meantime nobody can tell that two are synthetic and one is not, and it has been a great, wallet friendly compromise.

I'm a bit on the fence regarding simulated stones. I love gems in general and love that they are created in nature. On the flip side, there are often ecological and humanitarian impacts to gem mining. I went to a hoity toity jeweller that only sells ecologically friendly/conflict-free certified gems. If not for that, I would've probably gone with created gems.

I'm very much the same, nelie. :) I am really, really into semi-precious gemstones, but when it comes to the very expensive stuff, the moral / ethical considerations of contributing to an artificially-controlled demand for stones with very bloody histories just tips the scale. And just for me, personally, I never have understood or wanted to buy into the culturally-constructed mythos around diamonds. In my mind, there are so many other beautiful gems! I just don't get it. Give me moonstone or labradorite over a diamond any day. :D

In my case, I went with a lab-created alexandrite (still expensive, but not astronomical like increasingly rare mined alexandrite.) Talk about awesome. Really love the color-changing effect (from turquoise to purple, depending on the light.)

Went a little off-topic, but pixie -- you might try looking at Etsy, especially if you'd like something pretty and more reasonable for now while you wait to invest in a smaller size.

I bought some really nice inexpensive rings off of amazon.com. They tend to be sterling silver which I love. A quick search brought up many choices under $50 that would work as an engagement ring, and they have great tungsten wedding bands too.

Have you ever heard of meteorite rings? It's literally a stone made from a 4 billion year old meteorite. My sister-in-law has one and it looks just like a diamond. It's very sparkly and pretty. When my family and I first saw her ring we said to my brother "holy cow! How could you afford it?" Then later he told us what it was, which I thought was way more interesting and special than a diamond. How many people have meteorites after all?
