Eurovision song contest. Any fans here?

  • The contest is on Saturday and I was wondering if there are any eurovision fans on this forum. I love watching the show, it is glamorously tacky and so much fun. I am hosting a Eurovision party as I usually do.
The menu will have whole wheat pizza with lots of vegetables, fresh fruit juices that might accidentally have a bit of alcohol and lots of criticising/bashing/booing and laughing.
Any favourite songs this year? or any from previous years?
  • Here, here!!! We are having a party at the local Finnish center just to celebrate the show.
  • I used to live with a girl who was obsessed with Eurovision and held a party every year! Now I just usually watch it for a laugh but will be working all weekend so I'll miss watching our entry getting the usual pathetic 8 or so points, lol. Boo!!
  • All just say : Go Finland
  • GO SPAIN!!!!!
El Sueño de Morfeo is representing Spain this year, I actually really like that group!
  • Party going on over here, though of course, we're the UK so I don't hold up much hope for us. I wish we didn't have to keep entering songs from the 1980s!

We have to dress up as a country, I'm still not totally decided yet. Maybe a German beer maid or some other awfully stereotypical get up...
  • Sum38 - Sorry, I won't be voting for Finland as she says "Skipping dinner to get thinner" I could never do that!
the shiv - I think that many people will vote for Bonnie Tyler (for old times' sake) as most of us need a hero.
Fiftyfive - cute song, nice,"crystal" voice

I quite like our entry - Alcohol is free and the Icelandic one but I haven't seen all the songs yet. I didn't like the songs from the 1st semi-final.
  • haha, i had no idea that the first show was already yesterday untill my friend called me and then hastily cancelled our convo because she had to go watc eurovission which is like a ritual for her lol i used to watch it regularly but past few years i think it all became a joke...not to meantion some singers who represent their countries
  • I used to watch it every year, but I don't like it as much anymore since they introduced the semi-finals. That, and my country rarely has anything good to offer in that contest. Did win a few years ago though, and had a party back then because we basically knew that would happen. But it is hilariously tacky and fun to watch, LOL.
  • How did you like it this year?
  • Can I ask what exactly is Eurovision? I've heard it mentioned before on an old Graham Norton episode on BBC America. I wasn't sure what they were talking about.
  • Congratulations to Conchita! I'd love to go to Vienna to see it live next year. Oh and commiserations Molly, good song Oh well.

To anyone curious, just google Eurovision, it's a European tradition, they even have a YT channel with all the songs.
  • I don't even fully understand what it is and we don't have any way to view it here and I'm bitter about it every year. I think it is something I would LOVE. As someone who watches Miss America for the talent portion, I feel this was made for my viewing pleasure.
