Exercising in the rain

Do you do it?

It's coming into winter here and, I think, it's the best time to exercise because it's not so hot. I went out today wearing a beanie, a turtleneck skivvy, shorts, my running shoes, and my phone in a zip-lock bag and went out to my (slushy) track. It had been raining all day and half an hour before that rain was coming down hard! Thankfully, the sun peeked out during my 30 minute session :D I think I'll keep going when it's raining, unless there is a thunderstorm or the rain is so hard that I can't see!

If you do exercise in the rain, what are your limits?

I do it, but I hate it. Maybe I won't mind so much when it's warm and wet. Cold & wet I'm not a fan of. Races go on in the rain though ( last weekend I had a half marathon where it rained the entire time), so I train in the rain. I draw the line at thunderstorms, temps below 35 F, hail, and hard/heavy rain. There's a light rain today, so I'll be doing the 3 miles that are on my calendar.

I think I will when it gets a little warmer, but it's been an unusually cold spring in the midwestern United States...we've gotten rain and 40 degree weather so I've been opting for more indoor activities. I would love for it to be 75 and raining, that would be amazing!

Yes. I walk. And I bought a good umbrella specifically for the task at hand.

When I was running a few years ago, rainy summer days were some of my favorites for a good run. It would be 95 degrees with 95% humidity, and then there'd be this massive storm and the temp and humidity would drop, and I'd head out and run in the misty drizzle. Perfection. I can't wait to do it again this summer.

I did a trek in Patagonia in March, where the weather is really variable. So I trained in the rain and snow, going out in all kinds of crazy conditions, so I could make sure my gear was all up to par. Good thing, as we trekked through a blinding hurricane along the edge of cliff and over a mountain pass.

Now that that is behind me, I don't let a little weather hold me back. I tell myself, "If I could trek through a hurricane, surely I can get out there in a little wind and rain..." LOL

it always rains up here and I reallyyyy don't like being outside, cold and wet, in the rain :( I signed up for my gym specifically so I could work out and NOT be cold and wet....I did try a run on a trail yesterday with just a little rain coming down, which wasn't too bad...I just hate to make myself any colder than I already am constantly anyhow

I love jogging when it's raining outside. It keeps it cooler. Its when it's too hot that I have the issue.

I do it. I hate going out in it, but I usually like it once I'm a few minutes in. I don't usually go as long - I went on a 20 minute run vs. a 60-90 minute walk/run the other day when it was 40 degrees and pouring, for example. I'm pretty sure all the folks in cars thought I was NUTS running through the park after dark in the cold rain wearing shorts and soaking wet vibrams!

Ditto. I've noticed that the regular cyclists don't go around the track when it's raining! Maybe it's too slippery. I don't know, I don't own a bike.

Me too! I dislike running in the sun. I love the feeling of my skin being cold but my body is hot. I'm used to playing soccer in the winter and being so cold that my legs are numb, so the cold doesn't bother me too much :)

I think that might be the only time I do anything outside in the summer here. I live where the great lakes surround me, and in the summer the humidity is terrible! I'm actually looking forward to doing just that. My mindset is that if I'm working out in the rain, I'll be constantly 'refreshed' and cooled off. I think that'll actually play to my advantage as to when I call it a day.

Running in the rain makes me feel hardcore, which just adds to the runners high.

This was my half at the end of April. It rained the ENTIRE time.

I do. We get cold rain here, but I just dress for it. The key is to keep moving so you don't get chilled. I spent two hours out with my dog on Saturday walking and it was snowing/raining the entire time. We both got soaked, the dog was filthy, and we had a blast. :)

I agree. I purposefully wear slightly less clothing to keep motivated :)

I've done it once and I did not like it
