RIP, George Jones

Just wanted to post a bit about the loss of George Jones. I guess I'm just a little nostalgic because I grew up in a small southern town, listening to him and other "real" country singers. I'm not into country music now, but when I do hear those old songs, those memories of childhood come flooding back. I distinctly remember playing one of my dad's George Jone's albums, listening over and over to "He Stopped Loving Her Today." My favorite, though, is "She Thinks I Still Care."

Anyone else grow up with this type of music?

I did, he was one of my moms favorites. A great artist.

I was able to gift my brother and his wife tickets to see him last fall - the crowd was SO into him; really applauding him after every song. He said you could sense that he was on his last tour - and was still a great performer. I could never listen to He Stopped Loving Her Today without weeping. If I drank, I'd be lifting a drink to ole George tonight.

My boyfriend remembers lying in bed at night as a boy and listening to Bartender's Blues over and over again on his tape player. He said he he just knew that song was the "real deal" even as a kid. I wasn't truly introduced to George until I was a teenager. I'm so sad, but my bf is just heartbroken. He says country music has officially died.

Nice to know so many others appreciate the old-time country music, too! :)

I'm not from the south (actually, I'm French Canadian!) but my dad always love old school country, we grew up on a farm, holding strong family traditions...

As a kid, and specially as a teenagers, I was all YUCK about country, but growing up I really got into it, it reminds me of home somehow!

My dad loved Georges Jones, he must be sad of his passing :(
