Anyone else counting down the days to GOT?

March 31st! It's my favorite show ever, and its premiere will definitely be my "cheat day," I HAVE to have a cheat day because when I crave junk I just think "You can have a couple bites on your cheat day in a couple weeks." Not going to care about the diet that day it's all...me, the Starks, the Lannisters, the Baratheons, the Targaryans, some direwolves, and a few dragons.

Anyone else counting down the days for this? (ps in case you lost count it's only fifteen!!!!!!):carrot:

Just curious, what is GOT?

Sunday115 03-16-2013 09:51 AM

GAME OF THRONES :D Only the best show (arguably book series also) EVER!

Sunday115 03-16-2013 09:52 AM

They only have ten episodes a year, so this has been an almost ten month wait.

I'm in the middle of reading book 3, and I love it so much!!! DH and I have begun to watch the first series, but we do Netflix and the dvds only have 2 episodes each, so that's taking a while.

Have you read the books too or do you just watch the show?

Sunday115 03-16-2013 11:36 AM

I have read the first two, but decided not to spoil the rest of it until after season three (I own all 5 of them that are out, there are two more due.) They're great

also, Also if you happen to have HBO and a cable provider with on demand service all 20 episodes should be on there.

Scarlett 03-16-2013 08:56 PM

I'm looking forward to it too. I just finished the last book. I purposely wanted to finish it before season 3 started so that I'm not following the story in 2 different places at the same time. For some reason knowing whats going to happen really doesn't ruin the show for me. I also really like that they are making season 3 the first half of "A Storm of Swords". The books are so long and expansive that it just makes sense to break them up into 2 seasons. Sort of like how I wish the last few longer harry potter books should have all been broken down into 2 movies.

Sunday115 03-16-2013 09:01 PM

Yeah that and if they do a book a season, the Author will have to catch up to the show, and that's not good lol.

Scarlett 03-16-2013 09:13 PM

yeah. I read the first 2 books before I started watching the series. I find it fun to know the story and look at the people they cast and how they portray stuff. Some of the characters are spot on and others leave me scratching my head a little. I'm anxious for the next book though it's gonna be at least 1-2 years. Dragons ended on a bit of a cliff hanger.

TurboMammoth 03-16-2013 10:11 PM

The book was really good, I preferred this one to the second one. This is probably gonna be a good season, even if I am not watching the show (I dislikes the random out of the blue not adding anything to the story sex scenes).

I like to read the books first too, and I feel the same way about the character portrayals. What did you think of Tyrion on screen vs in the book? I think I find him much more likeable and relate-able in the books. I think it's because so much of Tyrion's character is developed internally and when you watch him on screen you can't really see his thoughts.

I feel the same way about the not adding anything to the story sex, but HBO is kind of infamous for that. Right off the bat in the first season Tyrion is in bed with a gaggle of whores and that wasn't in the book at all.

HAH that is my ONLY complaint about the show. Sex sells.

Sunday115 03-17-2013 11:40 AM

And Missy Krissy, Tyrion gets more and more likable in the television series the longer you watch.

Scarlett 03-17-2013 12:22 PM

I have a hard time distinguishing the books. They kind of all run together for me, so I can’t really say I liked this one or that one better.

I actually LOVED what they did with Tyrion in the show. I think Peter Dinkage is phenomenal in the role and you really get how tough, witty and tormented he is. Although you know less of the back story I think he is plenty likeable, you see him design the saddle for Bran and stand up against Joffrey’s evilness.

I also thing Sean Bean was perfect as Ned Stark and Catlyn Stark was spot on as well. I was so so on Dany. I really liked Cersei and Jamie. I loved the Robert they chose.

I wasn’t crazy about the casting of the Stark children for the most part. In the book Arya and Jon were the only ones with the “coloring of the north” ie resemble Ned in looks. The rest of them were supposed to have the paler skin, red hair and blue eyes of the south. You really didn’t get that distinction in the show. Jon (the Bastord) was the child that looked most like Ned and really looked like a Stark child of the north, which was a reason Catlyn resented him even more. He was supposed to be better looking and more talented than his trueborn brother Robb. In the show you could absolutely tell that they dyed the actor’s hair (who played Robb) red and he just didn’t have that ginger coloring. I didn’t love Sansa either. In the books she was supposed to be ridiculously beautiful and I don’t think the actress who plays her lives up to that description (she’s good looking but not 1 in a million). Bran was supposed to have the red hair ginger coloring and be a child of the south but he’s not in the show. I love the Jon snow and Arya they chose but I think they should have done more to make snow resemble Ned (maybe give them the same color hair). I think the Stark children (since they are the main focus of the books), should have been a little closer to the author’s description.

I'm so ready for this to start up again! Love love LOVE GoT!

MedChick87 03-18-2013 11:26 PM

I'm just a *tad* obsessed with anything Game of Thrones. I'm currently reading the 4th book, which I put off b/c there's no Tyrion or Daenerys. It's actually pretty good so far though! I sped through the 3rd one...the next 2 seasons are going to be CRAZYYYYY! Ahhhhh I can't wait for the show! I've been waiting since the season finale of last season! lol

Just curious...for those who have both watched the show and read the books...which do you prefer? I'm having a hard time figuring it out for myself lol

SoMuchFattitude 03-19-2013 07:05 AM

CANNOT WAIT!!!!! DH has read all of the books. I can't get into the books but LOVE the show - gratuitous sex scenes and all. :D

Sunday115 03-19-2013 08:47 AM

I actually don't prefer one over the other Medchick, lol. Books are always going to be more in depth, I kind of hate when people say "THEY LEFT THIS OUT FROM THE BOOOOK" well yeah, they can't fit everything. A lot of things that are exciting in books would be boring on screen. So...I like both equally, they fulfill two different needs haha. One to be super lazy and just watch something curled up on the couch, and one to be super lazy and just read something, curled up in bed. See? TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

PUPMOM5 03-19-2013 10:25 AM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Game of Thrones! I've read all the books and I really love the TV show. I think they do a fantastic enough job that I find myself super excited even though I probably know what's going to happen. The theme song is even my ringtone, because I am a dork.

Sunday115 03-19-2013 10:27 AM

HAH it's mine too, and Jon Snow is my desktop background. It should be the Hound's new poster though because it's just WICKED. He had the best season 3 poster of all of them IMO.

MedChick87 03-20-2013 06:21 PM

Haha, the Targaryen symbol and words are my desktop currently...well it's official that we're nerds lmao

Sunday115 03-20-2013 09:28 PM

Looks like it lol

amandie 03-22-2013 03:40 PM

Whooooo!!! https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...07565556_n.jpg

Cannot wait! I personally have yet to read any of the books.

Sunday115 03-22-2013 03:42 PM

HAHA I love this!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. And yes, 9 days, I deff have a countdown on my phone. And my buddy and I are watching the entire second season this weekend. Can't wait!

megaileen 03-22-2013 06:41 PM

I also can't wait for it!

Read and love all the books. I am so pleased at how HBO has brought GRRM's vision to life. They have made minor changes out of necessity, but what they've made is great. It's gonna be an awesome season!

Scarlett 03-23-2013 10:45 PM

ok funny story. I told my family I have to work on Easter because I don't want to go. It's held at my uncles house and the party is always 75% his wife's family. It's just an awkward small talk fest.

I usually watch GOT at my Aunt's house (who lives 2 doors down from the uncle who is hosting Easter). I don't have HBO. Since I am not going to Easter, I can't watch it at my aunt's on Sunday. I stay over her house a few days a week to attend grad school and watch GOT then.

Anyway my neighbor/friend down here is a teacher and gets that whole week off. She's going to Florida and gave me the keys to her house so I can watch GOT at her house Sunday while she's in Florida. I plan to chill all day at her place all day and re-watch a few of the season 2 episodes.

Sunday115 03-24-2013 02:42 AM

Sounds like a perfect plan. I'm restarting season one tomorrow, even thought I just watched both seasons about a month ago, and I'm reading the books. It's my life.

I have this book series on my To Read List. I think I 'm the opposite. I like to read the book first before I watch. I don't want the video interfering in my mental picture while I'm reading. If I watch first, I can't shake the actor or events from the video out of my head when I read. It biases me.

Sunday115 03-24-2013 02:46 PM

Lol I tend to try to stick to whichever I started first. But since it will be such a long process, for the first time ever I'm doing both at the same time.

I'm in book 4 right now too, and I have to say I'm struggling to get through it. I'm not as invested in these characters and I don't really care about what's happening in their point of views. I'm just trying to get through it so I can start on book 5.

I'd have to say that I like the books better (I usually do), but I think that they did a really good job with the tv series. Loving the books doesn't take away any enjoyment from watching the series for me :)

I feel the same way, some things just won't translate well on the screen. My DH is one of those people who nit-picks tv/movies that are based on books, he drives me nuts when he does it!

Missy Krissy 03-24-2013 03:08 PM

BTW Sunday, I like your new avatar pic.

Sunday115 03-28-2013 02:56 AM

Game of Thrones. And thanks Krissy : )
