What are you reading Oct 2012??
A new month, new books to share. Please share with us what you are currently reading. :)
I'm a couple chapters in the 3rd book of 50 shades. |
I am reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini who also wrote "The Kite Runner" I have just started it but so far I am enjoying reading of a culture very different of ours.
|
I've read the full 50 Shades trilogy and I liked the first two books the best. The third was good, my mother blasted through them and made me read them
Anyways I just finished up the 5 Love Languages and am about to pick out a Frank Peretti book my mother in law gave me. Can't remember the name though, I'll double check. |
I'm reading the newest Dexter novel (Dexter is Delicious), and also Scarlet Feather.
|
Pyramids, by Terry Pratchett.
He is always good for what ails you! |
I am reading "Revolutionary Road" by Richard Yates. I saw the movie a few years back and loved it and have wanted to read the book ever since. It's dark, I know, but I'm glad I'm finally reading it.
|
The Kindness of Strangers = Mike Mc Intyre restores my faith in humans
|
Zoo by James Patterson. I LOVE James Patterson! :)
|
Just finished The Chaperone which I loved. Starting My Berlin Kitchen: A Love Story.
|
The Skinny Rules (Bob Harper)
and I'm thinking about re-reading one of the books on my bookshelf. Not sure which one yet. |

And The City and the City by China Mieville. I've read him before: Perdido Street Station and maybe one other, which I wanted to love but couldn't. Language and invention seemed to get in the way of the story, or perhaps the story just felt like a skeleton over which to lay all this weird invention. I'm not sure. I wanted to love it, but couldn't. Oh, but The City and the City, I am loving. Particularly now that I am used to the made-up names language affectations and acclimatized. I want to go live in Besz (or Ul Qoma) and wander around unseeing everyone else. It is great, really well constructed, a nice noir voice that still feels contemporary and such a great, intricate invention. I love the way it plays on the intersection between eastern Europe and the west, too. And nationalism, myth, loads of other things. Really great. |
I am reading a book called Pigeon English by Stephan Kelman, which is amazing, I am really loving it.
I am also re-reading Northern Lights by Philip Pullman for probably the 100th time. And I am dipping into Food: The Good Girl's Drug and The God Delusion too. I like to have lots of books on the go! |
I'm behind in the games...
I'm on the third book of the Hunger games.. |
Quote:
How are you liking them? |
I *loved* the Hunger Games I just finished all three last month...I really didn't think I'd even LIKE them, but my daughter bought the movie and I was hooked.
Right now I'm reading Divurgent (fiction) and The Swing (by Tracy Reifkind, kettlebell workout/diet program although I'm not on that diet). I think I'll read The Cloud Atlas next for fiction. ETA: How do you like Food: The Good Girl's Drug? I've had the first part on the Kindle forever it seems. |
Hello!
I thought about reading JK Rowling's Casual Vacancy but got scared off by the reviews. If it turns out I agree with the critics then it would taint her other books for me. (I had this happen with another beloved author and am not going to take the chance - weird but there it is.) Am reading Mad River by John Sandford. Finished An Idiot's Guide to World War 1 - research for my project of transcribing all my Grandfather's letters home from WW1. Stunning and to think they did it all again in about 20 years. Making them into a booklet for the great grandchildren. Next up - How Children Succeed by Paul Tough |

Love them! read the first 2 books in a couple days.. (before I started school.. LOL) The third is taking a bit longer because of school.. But yeah I'm loving the books! I watched the movie first because my mom wanted too and I was hooked! |

Just saw it in the library again today; read a few more chapters; can't put it down. Oh Well - there goes my weekend, LOL. (I got it immediately in person even though there are 234 holds on the 114 available copies.) |

Currenty reading Bald in the Land of Big Hair-- a memoir of someone fighting lymphoma. Previous to that I read Don't let Me Go by the author that gave us Pay It Forward. A book that brings people together despite their differences. |
I am reading A History of the Scottish People by TC Smout. I am working on my family history, and my family comes from Scotland.
I am also re-reading all my diet books. I guess you would call it inspirational reading. LOL. I am listening to Trickster's Point, by William Kent Kruger and performed by David Chandler. This is a mystery series with a native American slant to it. I am listening to it while I walk. I have to discipline myself to leave it alone except for walking. |
SerenityDiva: I am enjoying it so far!! Not read too much of it yet, but it seems to really tap into my eating habits. I'll keep you updated!
Froggydawgy: I am avoiding the Casual Vacancy for the same reasons!! I'm so nervous that it will be rubbish!! imnotperfect24: Cool!! I prefer the books to the film, as I actually found the film to be quite slow paced in places, which works fine in the books, but less so in the film! That's probably just me though!! I LOVE Jennifer Lawrence so that helps! |

Thanks! I have a lot on my Kindle, but I'm finding if something doesn't grab me I just move to the next LOL. I did like the part I downloaded, but honestly I think I'm too chicken to do the work. |
