What Are You Reading SEPT 2012

Another month. I'm late with this one too. Share with us what you're reading.

I am reading Gone Girl. Just started so I don't have an opinion yet.

Brandis 09-03-2012 12:07 PM

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. Case stories of patients evaluated by a neurologist prior to the advent of medical imaging. (Sorry. I'm a medical geek.)

missunshine 09-03-2012 12:41 PM

Ok, I am really struggling with 50 shades of grey...I've been reading it for a week and i'm only in the middle but i usually read a book in a day or two ...i don't know if i'll be able to finish it...it's such a painful and boring reading for me...i have no idea how this book ended being top seller book...
other than that i've started reading the lost girl and poker for girls.

sontaikle 09-03-2012 03:51 PM

I'm re-reading a bunch of novels from my childhood since I got hired over the summer to teach 6th grade.

Just finished James and the Giant Peach. Not sure what to pick up next, but I'm thinking another Roald Dahl book :)

Sinoia 09-04-2012 12:47 AM

The King of Torts, John Grisham. It is not gripping me, though I like him as a writer.

alinnell 09-04-2012 09:17 AM

I'm half-way through Gone Girl. Wow, very good and it keeps getting better.

SJKduke 09-04-2012 09:21 AM

I'm getting ready to start reading "Out of Africa" for a class.

SoMuchFattitude 09-04-2012 09:52 AM

Kill Shot by Vince Flynn. It's fantastic.

I've heard good things about Gone Girl, too.

TurboMammoth 09-04-2012 10:07 AM

I'm starting the third tome of the Game of Thrones series. Only red the prologue, but so far so good!

missunshine 09-04-2012 01:10 PM

^^ wow i had no idea there was a book game of thrones...need to check it out :)

shanhat81 09-04-2012 10:01 PM

Recently read:

Heading Out to Wonderful, by Robert Goolrick -- amazing
The Dovekeepers, Alice Hoffman -- I hated it. It just didn't do it for me.

On my bookshelf:

The Kingmaker's Daughter, Philippa Gregory
The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
Sickened, Julie Gregory
The Song of Achilles, Madeleine Miller
Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, Alexandra Fuller (love her)
The Locust Eaters, Tatiana Soli

If you like murder mysteries you MUST READ "Huntress Moon" i can't say enough about it. $3.99 if you have a kindle.

SoMuchFattitude 09-05-2012 08:11 AM

My husband is on the second book in the Game of Thrones series and loves them!

CanadianCutie 09-05-2012 09:06 AM

@shanhat81 I've read The Fault in Our Stars, and it is amazing. John Green is awesome.

Glory87 09-05-2012 12:32 PM

I hated Dovekeepers too!

Here's my current Good Reads list. I've read a couple of real clunkers lately, the last good book was: The Light Between Oceans. I don't recomend it for pregnant women (like myself). I sobbed the entire end of the book.

JossFit 09-05-2012 01:14 PM

I just read "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes last week. It was super interesting! There was a lot of information that was interpreted the way he wanted to interpret it, but still a lot of science about how our bodies respond to insulin and why our "Western Diet" is harmful for a lot of people.

I'm curious about The Dog Stars--let me know how you like it.

Silly Rabbit 09-05-2012 02:05 PM

Haven't read any books lately, but for the last few years I've been constantly reading stuff on a fanfiction site - there are so many good stories and writers. I guess it amounts to about 3-4 books a month.

BillBlueEyes 09-05-2012 02:07 PM

Read Gone Girl - couldn't put it down. Chock full of opinions, but they're all plot revealing.

Me, too, Bill. I can't wait each day to get home so I can read for an hour or so before dinner! (And then I silently hope there is nothing on TV so I can read after dinner, too!)

Yes, it was okay. It was like a kinder, gentler, The Road. I am an absolute nut for post apocalyptic stuff and I wanted more...something, I don't know. But it was definitely okay!

Gone Girl was definitely my favorite book of the year.

alinnell 09-07-2012 12:44 PM

I just finished Gone Girl. Wow. I actually finished it at work this morning--brought it up on the cloud reader and spent the past two hours reading (and answering phones from time to time). Time to really get to work!

Now I don't know what I should read. I've downloaded a couple dozen in the past few weeks and I have an Amazon Prime membership so I can get just about any book free in the library. Any suggestions anyone?

Wisertime 09-07-2012 07:34 PM

One Last Thing Before I Go by Jonathan Tropper

drake3272004 09-09-2012 09:13 PM

Just finished Never Burn A Witch, M.R. Sellers, and will be starting on Perfect Trust tonite, same author.

Great book! We read that in one of my philosophy classes that dealt with the medical aspect of philosophy, specifically with things like euthanasia, major medical decisions with families who have religious obligations, etc. I really enjoyed The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.

As for me I am reading The Five Love Languages and The Red Tent.

ubergirl 09-10-2012 01:10 PM

Interesting. I didn't much like Gone Girl. I thought the ending was a cop out and it left me feeling kind of eh...

LOVED The Light Between Oceans.

threekidsandasheltie 09-10-2012 01:41 PM

I am reading the first in the Vampire Academy series, doubt I will read anymore of the series, unless the rest of the book gets really good. Not sure what I will read next, but I am waiting for the last book in the Hush Hus series to come out next month. Yes, I am grown adult who likes to read YA books, lol.

Some of my recent reads, have been Divergent and Insurgent(loved these), Glimpse, Bound, The Mating(not YA), Forbidden and Embrace

Granted the ending wasn't the greatest, but the rest was good.

The Big Four by Agatha Christie... I'm on a binge. So far this month I've read Death on the Nile, The Hollow, and Appointment With Death all by her :)

Spiritix 09-15-2012 06:49 PM

I've had to read this book for class called Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong, and I must say, it is pretty enlightening.

Vegas Gal 09-16-2012 01:25 AM

I just finished reading "A Fat Girl In Therapy" by Rachael Marie. AWESOME BOOK!

:carrot: <---- Just because I think this is cute :)

Glory87 09-16-2012 08:27 PM

Just finished Wild by Cheryl Strayed, liked it!

LadyLinguistique 09-16-2012 08:37 PM

The second book of the trilogy, 50 Shades Darker, is much better so far. I decided to read the series so I could participate in the dialogue. I was somewhat bored by the first book and it seemed to take forever to get through. But I am whizzing through the second. Hang in there!

hmmm, it's only a buck for the kindle edition. Think I'll give it a try. :)

LadyPetite 09-17-2012 12:17 AM

Reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I think I might be able to finish the series before the end of the year.
