Different Body Shapes

How do you know what body shape you are? I googled it and found all kinds of new shapes I never even knew were a thing (cello, brick, vase, on and on and on) so now I'm even more confused.

I used to think I was a pear, but I carry extra weight in my tummy so apple, but I have big legs and hips and a wider butt, but from the side my butt is sad and flat. I have proportionate breasts and hips, but I don't have a very defined waist so then there are shapes like bananas or rulers (which I think are the same thing???) where there isn't much of a difference between bust, waist, and hips? I feel like I'm definitely an apple from the side view, but from the front maybe a pear or a spoon or a ruler. THERE'S TOO MANY DIFFERENT SHAPES!!!

I know it doesn't really matter, but supposedly there are different styles of clothing that flatter the different shapes, and I'd like to know mine so I have some sort of idea what would look decent on me (I'm coming off of about 5 years of baggy t-shirts and jeans here), and I have really no fashion sense whatsoever. Will my shape just keep changing as I lose weight?

What are you and how do you know????

I am a pear shape as in I am very bottom heavy, but really as I lose weight, I don't have near the pear shape that I used to. I really think the best bet is to just try on a really wide variety of clothes to see what fits the best.

The general thing is to look at your waist to hip ratio (waist measurement in inches divided by hip measurement in inches). If it's over .7 or .75 (around there), you're an apple. If it's below, you're a pear.

But to get more specific, I use this one calculator that has 8 shapes. My body shape is straight (which makes a ton of sense because my body IS straight when you look at it). I'm not top heavy (like an apple) or bottom heavy (like a pear).

Here's the calculator. Read the description with your results to see if it matches what you look like.

The only "body shape" system that ever made sense for me was one based on letters. I believe I'm an H (a wider ruler,) somewhat leaning toward an X shape (a type of hourglass.) I never would have fit into the typical ruler or hourglass shapes, nor did any of the mortar&pestle/vase/brick shapes have anything to do with me.

This blog goes into them in depth and is really helpful for learning to dress yourself. http://www.insideoutstyleblog.com/ca...fe-body-shapes

That was very helpful! I'm a spoon apparently! And the description definitely fits as far as where I gain weight etc.
