The title of this thread makes me chuckle, not at you, but it's just funny when you don't have the story yet :)

My ex husband really like certain foods, so I accommodated as much as I could. He liked fried chicken too, so I would make oven baked "fried" chicken. He liked burgers, so I'd buy light buns and lean beef, and he would eat three turkey bacon BLTs in a row, so I know he didn't mind that swap, the light mayo I had in the house, or the spinach I used instead of iceberg or romaine. He had no idea that the shepherd's pie he loved so much was 50% ground beef/50% ground mushrooms or that the potato topping was half cauliflower, and with the addition of peas and corn, it wasn't too shabby of a dish. :)

I figured if I'm spending our money on groceries, and I'm the designated cook, then I'll make foods for both of our palates. I recognize that health is important, so I'd make it the best way I knew how.

Now, I do the same with my daughter. I know what foods she likes and I find ways to make them in a way that satisfies my healthful mind. I am also aware that when she is with her father, I don't have control over that food and I don't freak out about it. I just make sure she has the healthy foods in my house when I am in control.

That's a good call. After our fight we went out for Thai barbecue chicken instead.

No doubt it's hard to hide/mask your own feelings. One way is to apologize right away if you notice yourself giving that look of disapproval--with humour, maybe? Something like "Sorry, I can't help it! I am naturally judgmental! Still love ya lots, honey!"

ETA: I read your post far too quickly and missed the last sentence. I am sorry about your marital troubles. All the best for both of you.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I think that's a good way to catch myself if I start to get in that place where I'm about to do that look.
