Don't go to Sonic...

At least not for a grilled chicken sandwhich !

My dad called and asked if I wanted anything from Sonic, and not feeling much like cooking tonight, I said a grilled chicken sandwhich. Sonic's grilled chicken sandwhich has 430 calories. So of course I thought it would be bigger and better than the one I get at McDonald's!

...WRONG!

McDonalds grilled chicken sandwhich has 410 calories (without Mayo), and it also has CHEESE, and BACON. Sonics... came with no cheese, no lettuce, and one very stringy tomato. And the bun was HUGE. I even weighed the meat on both of the burgers - Sonics piece of chicken was 2.3oz, and it looked like one of those cut-up and put back together chickens. Mcdonalds chicken was 3.8oz and looked like an actual fillet of chicken breast.

I didn't eat Sonics. I put it back in the wrapper and made my fiance go to McDonalds and get me one from there. :X I just couldn't justify wasting my calories on it. It tasted so bad compared to others I've had, too.

And a picture is worth 1,000 words...

(Mcdonalds should pay me for this~)

This is an awesome post in many ways but my favorite is that you weighed things. :D

Wow...what a difference! Thanks for sharing. Very informative for when we have to do fast food....hehe who knew that McD would come to save the day! ;)

This is great and while McDonalds still isnt home grilled, you can definitely see the difference. How about price difference?

You should be proud of yourself for not just eating what was there're, but for eating something you enjoyed eating.

lets see.. mcdonalds was 5.01 (after tax), and sonics was around the same price, i think! maybe a little less. you can get the other version from McDonalds that doesn't have the cheese or bacon for like, 4.60 (after tax).

and yeah! I've adopted an annoying attitude (to other people), lol. which is "this is nasty and I'm not wasting my calories on it".. I decided from day one I wasn't fonna eat things I didn't like for the sake of my willpower to not binge (22 days with not a single binge, Im pretty sure my refusal to eat things I don't like helped!)

:carrot: good for you!

Good for you for not eating it. Why waste the calories on something you don't like?

We didn't have Sonic's in my area until recently. I remember when the first (and still only) one opened up and everyone went nuts. The fiance and I went and I failed to see the appeal since the burger I got SUCKED.

This is an excellent attitude to have. I've become a bit of a food snob as a maintenance mechanism and it has been such a blessing - I won't waste calories on stuff that isn't delicious, healthy, or delicious AND healthy. It really takes away the deprivation feeling to restricting when I feel like I'm choosing the very best option and not just eating something because it is cheap or convenient.

And I love that you weighed that out, too. Excellent sleuthing!

I'm going to have to try adopting your attitude. Great idea!

Obviously to each their own, and I don't mean to make any sort of political statement. But chicken from either place isn't high on my 'must have' list. Mostly because of the cruelty involved in mass-production and because of the icky stuff they do to the meat to make it nice and white/pinkish so people will eat it.

I can understand craving junk, I do too. But I prefer a bag of french fries or cheese sandwich over something that involves animals. I eat chicken and such, but I try and buy it at a places like wholefoods or something. It might be more expensive but I rather eat less than something that's cheap, a lot and really not so awesome for the chickens involved. ;)

PLUS you lost some calories with all that extra work and effort ALY!

MiZTaCCen 04-09-2012 03:36 PM

I LOVE your attitude and I agree don't waste calories on something you don't want! We don't have Sonic's in Canada and after I got food posioning from Wendy's I refuse to eat chicken from any fast food place unless it's KFC...lol
