March 2012: Housekeeping Thread

Monday again and I have a headache and I STILL have to pull the house together after a busy weekend. :o

So I'm posting my hit list again to motivate me through it today.

Anyone ANY time this month who needs to just feel free to join in.

I'd be more than happy to cheer you along in whatever "house stuff" you've got going on! :cheer:

A.

--------------

DONE SO FAR:
  • Launched my peeps to work and school
  • ate breakfast
  • flip clothes over to dryer
  • bung sheets in to wash
  • vac the master bedroom, hallway, bathroom
  • mop vac the master bedroom, hallway, bathroom
  • clean toilet, sink, tub
  • Take break -- headache, ugh.

MiZTaCCen 03-19-2012 10:55 AM

Needs to be done: this will take me the whole month to do never mind one day...lol

Dishes
Clean the hallway stairs
Clean the kicthen/living room (sweep and mop)
Clean my bathroom
Do laundry
Grocery shop for the week and prep food (for some reason I never do this...)

astrophe 03-19-2012 11:05 AM

MiZTaCCen -- a day, a week, a month -- however long it takes. You go! :carrot:

A. :)

CanadianCutie 03-19-2012 12:18 PM

I'm in the process of doing laundry right now. I also have to change the bed, and rinse out soda cans before they get put out to recycle.
Hand wash bras and panties, put away laundry when it's done, clean the bathroom. This will probably take me all week to do, but I want my living area in tip top shape.

astrophe 03-19-2012 12:20 PM

Woot! Go CanadianCutie! :cb:

I'm eating lunch now. So my latest check in is...
  • vac foyer and kitchen
  • mop foyer and kitchen
  • load up dishes to wash, put away clean ones
  • Flip wet to dry and dump the dry, clean ones on couch (I save my laundry on the couch to fold at night when I watch TV)
  • Load quilt to wash.
  • Make lunch. Take break to eat it.

I'm trying to find the mental oomph to tackle kid's room. It's UGGGGH in there. My LEAST fav room in the house!

A.

astrophe 03-19-2012 02:06 PM

I'm so done with house stuff. Other than folding laundry later, I am BEAT. :faint:

Cleaned microwave
Reboot dishwasher
Put away clean dishes
Scrub all kitchen counters
Clean stove top
Flip the wash to dry, dump clean on bed, make bed with same sheets
Throw in towels to wash

Now it's get kid at school, get haircuts, get groceries. I hope!

A.

pluckypear 03-19-2012 06:32 PM

What I did today:

Dishes-handwashed and put away
Cooked-dinner (whole chicken, rapini and sweet potatos)
Cleaned toilet and sink in the bathroom.
Cleaned green bin
Swept kitchen floor
Cared for cats
Grocery shopped and put food away

Need to do this week:

Wash wig
vacuum

astrophe 03-19-2012 10:17 PM

Yay, pluckypear! :cheer:

patchworkpenguin 03-20-2012 11:33 AM

Today is the day I clean house, maybe breaking it down and checking it off one at a time would help?

pick up clutter off floors - including putting bath stuff in bathtub
sweep back porch - give dog fresh water
shake out kitchen/bath rugs
vac around baseboards/edges
vac area rugs - get them out of the way
vac hardwoods, kitchen, bath
mop kitchen/bath
clean bathroom
mop hardwoods
finish in bath
put everything away/back where it belongs

This takes me most of the day but vacuuming/mopping hurts my back so I do it in stages, resting, eating lunch, goofing off on computer between stages.

I started cleaning out kitchen cabinets last week so I need to finish that sometime this week.

summerlove 03-20-2012 12:12 PM

I need to:

- clean out closet and donate old clothes
- fold and put away my laundry NEATLY!!
- get rid of old papers, makeup, junk, etc.
- Clean under my bed.
- Pick up a new lamp and possibly another chest of drawers/storage unit from Ikea.

Phew. And my next free day is Sunday...shoot :(

pixelllate 03-20-2012 12:18 PM

For some reason I always feel grossed out cleaning my (not so new anymore) apt. I think cause I'm 100% responsible -no sharing of chores-so if I don't clean it, its not getting done and I always think "I"M responsible for this grime build up??? EW"
Anyways, I do regular wipe downs of the bathroom sink and table, take out trash and laundry weekly, but I always have to remember
1.) Cleaning pots and pans
2.) Floors
3.) Bathroom
4.) Putting away the house things I buy
5.) Sheets/pillowcases/blankets
6.) Fridge
and the toilet bowl (gag)

patchworkpenguin 03-20-2012 12:45 PM

picked up clutter off floors - including putting bath stuff in bathtub
swept back porch - give dog fresh water {its green from pollen fallout!}
shook out kitchen/bath rugs
vacd around baseboards/edges
vacd area rugs - got them out of the way
and ate lunch

vac hardwoods, kitchen, bath
mop kitchen/bath
clean bathroom
mop hardwoods

waiting on floors to dry, so will sneak a workout in.

ICUwishing 03-20-2012 03:50 PM

Wow, I admire you industrious chicks! :)

I let the new drapes hang for 6 weeks to see if the fold marks were going to hang themselves out. They didn't. I'm giving myself til the end of the month to iron the 4 panels (oh, how I HATE ironing!!!)

Tonight is de-clutter night for the housecleaners that come in tomorrow. In order to reasonably achieve this, I need to get three baskets of laundry folded and put away.

In addition, I need to replace the hose on my SelectComfort bed (that dear bunny chewed through) so that I can move back into my bedroom and sleep in my own bed again, and thus get my stuff out of the living room and off the couch where it's been for a week.

:p

astrophe 03-20-2012 04:39 PM

Wow -- I turn away for a day to play on my day off and here's everyone at work!

WTG! :carrot:

I'm still dreading child's room. It's the one and only thing on the hit list today. Yeeerrrrgh.

pixelllate 03-20-2012 04:49 PM

You know what? I usually waste a lot of time doing wipedowns (I will be doing those regularly for countertops or things that get frequently dirty). But the other things, since I want to do a big clean-I'll just save it for once a week/biweekly.
Ideally Sunday mornings, along with laundry
Regular, nondaily cleans
1.)Big bathroom clean up
2.)Floors
3.)Pots/Pans
4.)Fridge
5.)Sheets/blankets

I agree. Kitchen and bathroom get daily but the rest get once a week/2 weeks.

I use let's clean up.

http://www.lets-clean-up.com/

I have things that are "dailys" like basic kitchen wipe down. But other things are once a week. Monday is my big day because with the fam bopping around thru here on the weekend the house REALLY needs a reboot. Esp the floors with kiddie shenanigans.

But there's also some things that are spread further apart to monthly or 6 mos or 12 mos or whatever. Like AC filter, check smoke alarm batteries, etc. Those aren't dailies.

pixelllate 03-20-2012 08:06 PM

Thank you!! I'll check it out. I fluctuate between hating cleaning...and hating the nastiness from not cleaning LOL

MiZTaCCen 03-21-2012 10:30 PM

Woot!

Two loads of laundry done! (try getting me to fold it and put it away neatly is another thing.)
A load in the dishwasher DONE....still lots of dishes left...geez (and to think it's only me.)

Lots of energy tonight! I think goal, get kitchen completely cleaned up!

Also got my insanity workout in (so no excuses there! didn't even use but i have an earache excuse!) I'm on a roll!

patchworkpenguin 03-21-2012 10:38 PM

I did get everything done yesterday. I did a load of towels today and found the load of towels I did Mon still in the dryer. Sigh. but Hubby ran the dishwasher for me!

astrophe 03-21-2012 11:15 PM

WTG, you guys! :cheer:

Mine was light today -- just mop the floors again that need it like the high traffic kitchen and LR. Life with kiddie capers -- whee! :D

It's heavier tomorrow with the rest of the weeklies but not as rough as mondays are.

A.

MiZTaCCen 03-22-2012 08:54 AM

Oh I also managed to clean my stairs in the hallway!
I got all my dishes done, and cleaned the counter top and the top of the stove. (the kitchen table and floor still needs to be done...)

Todays goal: The bedroom!

Clear out my room and closest of ALL the things I do not wear!
Also finish off the rest of my laundry.
I should probably buy a dresser so it's not so messy. lol

AlyN 03-22-2012 11:31 AM

pixelllate 03-23-2012 11:01 PM

I'm going to hire a house cleaning service to do an initial cleaning. I feel sorta guilty about spending the money but I really want a deep cleansing.
Well at least I don't spend going out? lol.

pluckypear 03-23-2012 11:28 PM

astrophe 03-26-2012 12:06 PM

MiZTaCCen: Yay! How are you liking the spiffy bedroom? :)

AlyN: Big list! You can do it! :cb:

pixelllate: Why feel bad about that? I've done it before. Same as calling the AC guy or plumber -- sometimes the house just needs it! :D

pluckypear: Banging it out -- wtg! :carrot:

I failed at doing anything especially cleaning this weekend. haha I think I made more of a mess because I was being lazy and playing video games the whole time! haha...whoopsy! This week I'll accomplish something on my wonderful lists I have written!

astrophe 03-26-2012 03:39 PM

nelie 03-27-2012 09:59 AM

I'm so excited. My dog has been shedding like crazy so I bought a lightweight cordless vac. This means I can quickly vacuum ever day without having to drag my big dyson up and down the stairs.

astrophe 03-27-2012 10:02 AM

pluckypear: glad you enjoyed the low key weekend!

nelie: amazing what good tools can do, isn't it?

Running errands today.

A.

krampus 03-27-2012 12:55 PM

I have a lot of yardwork to do, but it got cold again after being summer-warm for a couple weeks and I keep putting it off. Mostly just raking, pulling weeds, stuff like that. I want to make my backyard look nice and do some planting - right now my whole neighborhood looks like a favela or shanty town from a third world country.

Earth Goddess 03-27-2012 02:23 PM

Its the end of the month and I want to get a few things done by April, those things are:

declutter my room
clean out laundry room
make grocery list
and make a to do list for April

good luck to everyone else.
