Who knows anything about US state laws and part time/full time work?

My job is salaried at 29 hours. If I work more than that, stat law says I have to be offered benefits.

Of course I work more than that.

My personal training will now take me well over the 29 hours and I asked about being full time.

They said no. They can't afford it.

I did some calculating and if I were to go to part time and work the actual 29 hours, I would be making only $60 less per week. AND I would aleviate myself from 90% of the frustrating responsibility of my job.

I would be able to be in control of exactly when I work instead of being responsible to fill in when another worker doesn't show up. I'm talking about coming in to open at 5:30 am or close at 9pm when I'm supposed to be sleeping. It doesn't happen much, but there's nothing worse than hearing the phone ring at those times and I have to drive in to do somebody else's duty. I could go on and on.

So my question is, how do I get around the 29 hour thing? Is it possible to work salaried AND part time? I'd just like to get paid for what I do. If not, then why am I doing this?

Call your local labor board and ask them these questions. In some states, once you go over that threshold so many times, they have to make you full time. If the job description calls for only 29 hours of work, then that's all they should be requiring.

Of course, I've never heard of a salaried part time position.

There are different laws depending on the size of the business also. You need an expert in your state.

Good luck.
