surprise in the broiler

So I made porkchops yesterday, and they were on the thick side. I decided to finish them up in the oven and warm up a side dish. So the oven is preheating, readying for the food I'm going to put inside....and I smell something burning/melting/on fire-ish. I open the oven and look inside--of course there's nothing in there because I emptied it of all pans prior, and it has a glass door, the light is on, and it is empty. Duh. However, I see though a hole in the bottom of the oven that there is an orange-ish blaze--not the usual blue fire.

On opening the broiler door, much to my surprise, I found a large box of Entenmann's eclairs. Mind you, I don't even like eclairs and husband knows this, so they don't need hiding. The bags and bags of candy purchased the first week of halloween, however, could have benefited me by similarly being hidden somewhere rather than left in the open where I had to pass by for what seems forever. So, I grab the melting box -- it was NOT on fire -- and toss it into the sink. When I ask hubby why he'd hide them in there...he said he was doing me a favor....but completely forgot they aren't a weekness of mine, and that he'd hidden them in the first place. In my wildest dreams, I'd never imagine hiding anything in the broiler, especially if someone else generally uses it. :dizzy:

Meanwhile, I guess I've found his secret hiding place.

Just be thankful that wasn't the place he hides money!

Oh my gosh! I laughed! I'm glad it didn't turn into a huge catastrophe.

That is a funny story. And yes, I'm very glad they didn't cause a house fire!!

I hid doughnuts in the oven...from the dogs. Once. For the same reason. Now I use the microwave to prevent them from snacking on counter food while I'm gone.

But people?

I guess I can relate. I hide my wine...from my high school kids.

I have a question that I'll put in another post so I don't hijack your thread.
