What's your style?
Let's face it- as a plus sized woman, we don't get a lot of clothing choices. And if you're anything like me, you usually end up with the easiest thing or the thing that hides your weight best (can you say jeans and t-shirt?). But once the weight comes off, there's a whole new world of clothing options opened up to us- so I'm wondering, what's your style? What styles appeal to you for when you lose the weight?
I love bohemian/vintage. Even some of the hipster styles are appealing (although far from all of them). http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...ty-d3s8ej4.jpg |
What a super fun post!!! I am gonna go search the web...Be right back :)
|
I find the more weight I lose, the more I'm drawn towards the girly stuff. Dresses, flirty skirts, sexy lingerie. Never been a big one for floral, so I go more for solids and geometric or other patterns (not animal print).

I'm the poster girl for jeans and a T-shirt because it's the easiest thing to wear (and find something that fits me in!). That being said, I love the clothes on modcloth, the whole vintage/50's look. Here are a few dresses that I just love: http://www.modcloth.com/Modcloth/Wom...+It+Ride+Dress http://www.modcloth.com/Modcloth/Wom...n+Square+Dress |
I. Don't. Know.
And it freaks me out. I have absolutely no idea what I want to wear. It was really easy to just go into the ONE store that carried my sizes and pick whatever fit best or hid my fat. About the only thing I ever wanted to wear as a girl were twirly skirts and dresses... maybe I want to go back to that? >_> As I'm losing weight... yeah. No idea. Maybe I'll figure it out along the way. |
runningfromfat- those are so cute! I can't wait to see some of your after pictures in a dress like those!
lovely- I know how you feel. When something like this is off the table for so long, you don't even think about it. I was lucky enough to have a taste of what normal weight was like a few years ago- I went from 288 to 160 (lowest since puberty) before coming back to 260. I've never been into clothes or fashion, and I've always hated shopping, but I was surprised at how excited I was to try out new styles on my new body. |

I drop 40lbs and suddenly I'm a slightly top-heavy hourglass. Not only can I not shop in the same places, but I need to figure out HOW the **** to dress to this shape. I'm totally glad that as a size 8 (sometimes 10) I can shop in a **** of a lot more places now, but I still have no idea what style I want to have or how to properly dress for someone my shape. Not to mention I still want to drop somewhere in the vicinity of 20 pounds, so my shape will change AGAIN. As of right now, I'm just buying a few jeans here and there and trying to repurpose my too-big tops. I don't really have the money to buy a whole new closet full of clothes that will just be too big eventually. |
Sontaikle,
Everybody is different. But i was size 16 when i was 180ish. Now i am 166 and size 12. You can wearsize 12 pants...just wondering whether i will fit in size 10 when i will be 160.planninga trip to India in oct...want to wear size 10 then. My style is Indian punjabi suite or saree. |
I don't really know either! I'm still figuring it out. So far my body hasn't completely changed shape, it's just shrunken down so I can apply some of the knowledge about how to dress my body shape. For now, I'm sticking with what I know but playing around with it a little more (shirts aren't as baggy, wearing things with more detail or things that will grab people's attention, accessories, SHOES, etc).
I've been spending HOURS on Pinterest pinning looks and browsing style and fashion pins learning what's in style, what appeals to me, etc. I'd highly recommend Pinterest for this! |

When I wasn't HUGE, I was a heels girl. I ALWAYS wore heels. As in 4 inch. I also went towards a little glam, sometimes a little bohemian, little club. I will be wearing those old clothes next yr.

My style is girly, I love putting on skirts, dresses and pretty dresses. I don't really wear heels though, I prefer comfy flat shoes. I also love my jeans and converses.

Kelly15: Ohh, I love those! We were at Hershey and there was a traditional Indian wedding reception going on. The women looked amazing...I wish it were more acceptable for an "American" wedding to wear such, colorful ornate dresses!
|
puneri & kelly - glad to see some desi taste on here! I have a suit that I looove although I never have an occasion to wear it (maybe Diwali?) but I can still wear the chuni as a scarf. I'd looove to wear a choli when I reach goal :D

It's weird and completely new for me to be able to shop for clothes that aren't plus-sized. I still can't wear anything very interesting in pants (my thighs are still very large), but I love trying on tops and dresses. One of the brands that I keep seeing at Lord and Taylor and at Macy's is Tahari, and I really like the styling of some of the clothes. (Most don't fit me just yet, but they will soon. :D) If money were no object and I were about 30 lbs lighter, I would LOVE to wear this dress: http://www.elietahari.com/BIANCA-DRE...n-shop-dresses

My style really depends on my mood and how I feel, also how I feel in the clothing at that time. I have a completely different taste in clothing some days. Some days I feel really good and skinny in some clothes then another I may feel fat and disgusting in the same outfit.
Here is a collage of clothes/purses/shoes/etc that I like and wear: http://i52.tinypic.com/n64477.jpg |
I might just have to go a little crazy! Might see me on Maury, lol jk.. I love girly stuff so that's wear I will be at. Something really cute and flirty. Oh and with sky high stilettos to top it off! :)
|
My style when I am thinner is straight out of the victoria secret clothing catalog. Love the shoes and the casual clothing. I can not wait till I can buy things from there again (and not the xl yoga pants which seems to be the only things I can fit into now)
|
Kelly, your clothing tastes are a lot like mine! I'm very into bohemian, vintage, hippie, and just anything flowing, pretty, and kind of innocent-looking. I'm also into comfort too, and those kinds of clothes are comfortable. I had this one skirt that I loved. I got it for $20 at the last minute when I was searching for something to wear to my cousin's wedding. It was breezy, long, and a nice scarlet color; it fell over my curves very flatteringly. It looked so good paired with flip-flops. lol. I miss that skirt so much. I wore it until it practically fell apart.
|
Once I lost the weight I started to wear things that were more form fitting--like bolero jackets and long tanks underneath with low-rise and heels..I absolutely LOVE Bohemian Chic and feel like it suits me best though.
|
I love 50's glam!!! I am all about a line/pencil/full skirts and snug tops!

I like sporty styles. As I am losing weight, I am noticing I have more of an athletic build and sportier things look better on me. And they tend to show off my developing muscles more.
|
I totally love the Gyaru look (not the too extreme side, but the Ona-Gyaru/more mature look). I'm not a fan of long nails on myself, but everything else is super hot!
When I loose it, oh am I gonna rock this look. Tall boots! Pretty things! Whee! |
For me?
Think the GAP type style (long, lean, very simple) mixed with a tough girl punk metal type look. So... an edgy simplicity. :) |
I am trying to make it worth my while to be at goal weight. I want to make sure I look good enough to make it worth the effort. Part of that is trying to redefine my style. So I am in the process of upgrading my casual clothes from random T-shirts and crappy jeans to the neo-bohemian tops and flattering casual pants/jeans I can find at thrift stores. A few days ago I tried on about 15 pairs of pants and jeans and found one I liked (and in no way the pair I would have bet on). But I am super pleased with that! I also found a handful of tops (with much less effort) and I am wearing one of those today.

My style is a little all over the place. If a piece appeals to me than I want it! Of course that's been limited for a while now. I'm starting to be able to shop in regular stores again and it's getting exciting. For the most part I like the vintage bohemian look too.
Kelly ~ I love the print on the dress in your first post. I have a section in my favorites with links to some of my dream clothes. I like looking at them and imagining fitting into them somday. =) Maybe someday I'll actually be able to buy a few of them! Here are a couple: (Big fan of Modcloth too!) http://www.modcloth.com/Womens/Dress...ollector-Dress http://www.modcloth.com/Womens/Dress...Finalist-Dress http://www.modcloth.com/Womens/Dress...rsailles-Dress http://www.unique-vintage.com/stop-s...s-p-12627.html This is my favorite "want to look super sexy and glam" event dress. hehe http://www.simplydresses.com/shop/viewitem-PD478682 |

If those come true, then I will be thrilled to wear something like a little corset camisole and some skinny jeans or just as basic form fitted scoop neck tee and jeans. |

While I don't really know what sort of style I am or could pull off... I do know what I like! Unfortunately, what I like most is stuff from the Pyramid Collection catalog :o http://www.pyramidcollection.com/ite...getype=Product http://www.pyramidcollection.com/ite...Row=0&srccode= http://www.pyramidcollection.com/ite...Row=0&srccode= http://www.pyramidcollection.com/ite...Row=0&srccode= http://www.pyramidcollection.com/ite...Row=0&srccode= Basically, if I could dress like a Renaissance Steampunk Fairy Pirate every day of my life I'd be golden. If I have to look more normal (which usually I do), then Bohemian is a good mix of flowy and pretty. |
I'm definitely a 50's chick when it comes to dresses and skirts!
Love this! I like 3/4 sleeve jackets and shirts... something like this For skirts I like A-line stuff. Guess 40's as well as 50's Lately I'm loving gray and beige since they seem to pop with colors. For coloring though, I have red hair so yellows and greens look fantastic, along with turquoise. But, I don't touch oranges and some reds. I can do pink and some pinkish reds though. Anyway, this is a cool thread!! :D |

Adorably schizophrenic. Skirts over jeans. T-shirts. Way too many necklaces. Combat boots or moccasins or sneakers. Bracelets, but only on my left wrist. No gold, only silver. Glasses that are vaguely reminiscent of cat-eye glasses. Used to do fishnet underneath, but I really thing that's played out, and I was only doing it to hide my arms anyway. Sometimes just a t-shirt and shorts and sensible sandals or shoes. Things often don't match, and I don't much care. Never sweatpants or khakis.
