a 1992 Saturn. green, and beat up. That thing took a quart of oil every month. The stearing went out and the breaks, both when I was in the middle of driving it @.@

patchworkpenguin 06-09-2011 11:34 PM

1980something grey Pontiac Bonnieville. It used to belong to my great-uncle.

Hubby's first car was a '64 Galaxie 500 fastback. Of course he bought it in the 80's when he was 16.

NiteOwlMommy 06-10-2011 03:22 AM

1995 Honda Accord white
It was a gift from my dad when I was 15. I remember because I had been dating an older guy behind his back and when I was caught he told me that he would get me a car and a computer if I never saw him again. So we just stopped seeing each other LOL now looking back I remember how "in love" I was but the car and computer where too good to pass up!

Lovely 06-10-2011 08:32 AM

1989 Honda Civic... and it was near 2001 when I got that car.

*sniff* I had so many great bumper stickers on that car when it died on me...

I miss you Quicksilver! I know you're up in car heaven putt-putting around...

cbmare 06-10-2011 12:51 PM

Geez. I'm old.

1966 VW Bug. I split the cost with my parents. Daddy got tired of having to wait for me to get home from college so he could go fishing, so we got a second car. I think we paid $1800 for that thing and in the mid 70s Linc (the late love of my life) and I traded it in for $1500 towards a Toyota.

That bug got 35 miles to the gallon. When I left Pensacola to move to Calif, it got in the 40s on the highways. My first husband managed to dent the front fender and I never fixed it.

I miss that car.

triptriptrip 06-10-2011 12:59 PM

I got my car a few weeks before my 17th birthday (in 2007) and it was a 93 toyota corolla. My sister drove it off of a cliff, landed in poison oak, and that beast still drove! Now I'm on my second flimsy 97 cadillac deville and I wish that I had that toyota.

Was your sister or the car the beast?

She drove off a cliff and survived? Must not have been a high cliff. I'm glad she didn't end up paralyzed or worse.

amandie 06-10-2011 01:28 PM

Mine was a 1999 Ford Contour Sport VT version- it had 136k miles on it and transmission got shot after a year of having it. 2nd car was 98' Honda Passport- lovedddddd it until the transmission pooped out on me again within a year. Bahhhhhh. All those cars were from my dad- he owns a new/used car dealership. :D

tinamariex16 06-10-2011 01:40 PM

2000 Chevy Malibu. I loved that thing. I could hit just about anything and it never dented.

The silly Nissan that I bought brand new will dent if you just look at it the wrong way :(

glassmenagerie 06-10-2011 01:44 PM

1992 Dihatsu Charade. Say that five times fast!

zoodoo613 06-10-2011 01:44 PM

1981 Toyota Corolla, silver with an enormous dent in the hood. I got it in 1991 (gift from grandparents) with I think 130,000 and drove it until 1996.

Beach Patrol 06-10-2011 03:49 PM

In 1979 I turned 16 and my dad bought a 1972 Ford Mustang - from a JUNK YARD ...for $500!! It was rusted in several places & the junk yard was the proper place for it! - but! - my dad worked at a prison, & he got the car into the prison work shop & the inmates worked on the car from headlights to tailights... and after a couple months, it came out looking BRAND SPANKING NEW! It was a light metallic green with dark green interior. Man, I loved that car!

Until some B**** in an R/V crashed along side of it & tore it all to ****. And the b**** didn't even STOP to see if I was OK or anything!!! (I was, but the car was completely totaled! )

To this day, I hope the car gods curse her every single day of her life with dead batteries and broken cables and irreplaceable parts!

kgsmiles3 06-10-2011 03:56 PM

1997 Black Toyota Camry that was my baby :) Given to me as a graduation gift from high-school in 03...Thanks to my mom

I still cant seem to get away from the Toyota family.

caryesings 06-10-2011 04:45 PM

1970 pumpkin colored Ford Maverick.

Miss Sandra 06-10-2011 04:49 PM

2000 gold Toyota Corolla (used). When I turned 16 my dad got if for me with the condition that I paid the $180 car payment and I wash it once a week. I loved that car so much! I was the only one of my close friends to have a car so young so it was used and abused. lol Back when it only cost me about $15 to fill up the tank. Sadly, the day after my 17th birthday, a huge F-350 truck plowed through a stop sign and ran over the front of my car. :( (the car was the only thing hurt)

DixC Chix 06-10-2011 05:00 PM

In 8/1979 (when I got my first real full time job after college) I bought a 1975 Datsun B210 2 door hatchback manual trans, no air conditioning, AM/FM radio with lousy reception, in red with a white stripe down the middle. It got about 35mpg and a real rattletrap. I think I paid $2000 for it but I know my car payment was $75/mo. Funny that I can remember these details. I guess you never forget your first!

The car still drove. I'm originally from California and there's a road called Decker canyon. It's quite steep but she was very lucky to land into the poison oak trees growing on the side of the mountain. If the trees hadn't been there, she wouldn't have been so lucky. She had a seat belt burn and some rashes from the oak, but that's it. Very lucky.

cbmare 06-10-2011 08:36 PM

trip, she was indeed lucky.

mom2fivesweeties 06-10-2011 10:20 PM

A 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass who I named "Fred." Have no idea why! LOL!
It was a greenish gold with a black vinyl top and the gear shift in the middle with bucket seats! It was COOL!!~ I got it from my dad my senior year in high school which was 1972/73 school year. I couldn't take it to college though until my senior year there. Dad knew with the car I wouldn't be studying as much as I should! Everything worked out.

junebug41 06-10-2011 10:42 PM

A maroon '94 Nissan Altima I got when I was 17 (in 1999). I drove that thing into the ground and she was still so good to me! She gave out in '07 with 228k miles. I went without a car until Tuesday- I got a 2009 Nissan Murano. Some lady talking on her cell Phone almost backed into her today and I freaked out. Her name is Donna Reed because it's a mom car, but I love it. Can't imagine not buying a Nissan now.

VegDay 06-11-2011 03:49 AM

78 Ford Pinto. It was a good car. Drove it to the junk yard and sold it for $50.00 many, many years later.

I'll date myself too.

EZMONEY 06-11-2011 08:27 AM

My first car was a '67 Mustang which I bought in '69 when I was 15 1/2 with money I had saved up from working construction clean-up/drywall on week-ends and summers.

I paid $2,200 for it, white with a red racing stripe, big tires and rims. I believe it had about 20,000 miles on it.

It was a chick magnet......or maybe it was me :D

probably was the 8 track stereo in it rockin' Iron Butterfly ;)

murphmitch 06-11-2011 08:35 AM

I had a green '69 Mustang my parents bought for me when I was a sophomore in college. I had two older brothers so parents said I didn't need a car in high school (since they could drive me anywhere and I was a girl)l. Very embarrassing to have to have them take me everywhere. The Mustang's heater/defroster quit working. (Not good in Iowa in the winter) and the driver's side window kept falling inside of the door, so I wasn't sad to see it go after graduation. But I did like the V8 engine in it. Lots of get up and go!

I'm sure it was you EZ! Iron Butterfly - one hit wonders!
I remember the old 8 tracks. After a while they would get warped or the tape would get stuck in the player! Our version of the Ipod!

Mine was an '85 Lebaron convertible that my dad bought used when I was a senior in high school to convince me to live at home and commute to college. He sure knew how to motivate me! I've had a convertible of some sort ever since!

Mine was a 1990 Honda CRX Si (modified with a racing clutch). I bought it when I was 16 and DH and I sold it when I was 22. A little black car with no air conditioning in the desert is pretty miserable. It was a fun, fast little thing though. I didn't care at the time ('cause gas was $1.15/gallon) but it got close to 40mpg.

sheramama 06-11-2011 10:35 PM

Flem (yes, we named him that after our accident in Flemington, NJ prom weekend) was a 1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera grandpa car that I inherited in 1999 who sadly died in 2004.

I had to pay to get him removed. He was a good car--had lots of memories and kicked a** in the snow. I fondly remember parking him many a times to come back to 2 other grandpa olds in the same blue/grey parked next to him. *sigh* I loved that car. I didn't love when the steering and transmition went at the same time.

jenjen 06-11-2011 10:51 PM

A 1968 (or 1969) Javelin. It was my aunt's and my dad bought it from her in the late 70s for my sister. They got it back up and running for me in 1987!

Only an AM radio. But, we could pack the people in!

Lots of great memories with that car---my sister driving us around and loading it up in the summers to go to the lake to me & my friends running around my junior and senior year.

I still remember the morning I had to drive my dad to work. I started up the jav and the radio starts BLASTING Def Leppard's "Pour SOme Sugar on Me"!

My parents still have it parked in a lot they own. Would love to be able to get it up and running again.

mzKiki 06-11-2011 11:02 PM

1991 Volkswagon Golf! I hit so much stuff and it never dented!! And the radio played with no key in the ignition, still cant figure that one out.

love2b150 06-11-2011 11:12 PM

a 1988 red manual shift, manual windows Ford Festiva, a little box with no a/c I kept it for 5 years, couldn't make my daughter suffer, had to have a/c :)
