Watching my teenage aunt make out with her boyfriend at sock hop parties. I was the little kid she had to drag along. She always got all the cute guys!
I was attending UC Santa Cruz for the second time, working as a pastry chef, body surfing at Capitola, taking modern dance classes, working as a wild life rescue volunteer and wondering why I was not getting pregnant. In 1987 it finally happened (getting pregnant, that is).
Can't remember the exact year this song came out but thinking I was in High School. EDITED: Okay, taking that back, lol...1983...I was living in CA, married, just bought a house and had two boys.
I was still grieving over the loss of my husband 2 years earlier. However, I had 2 kids and had to keep going. I was in a job that went from fantastic to sucky. I was dating my current husband, boobalah.
Mare-it's amazing how resilient we are isn't it? You're a hero!
In 1981 I had just moved to Santa Cruz from Sacremento. My husband and I (then my boyfriend) were living in our camper out in front of a friend's house, looking for jobs and a place to live. It was a very unsettled, but exciting time in my life. I sort of liked the vagabond, go- in-any-direction choices I had then. It was fun to be part of a communal household next to a Buddhist retreat and to go to the beach almost every day, cook leisurely meals with lots of other people and explore lots of options. When the money started to run out I took a job as a pastry chef in training, completed a culinary program and did that job for a long time.
Thanks, Quix. 1980 was the year Linc died. Widowed, under 30 with 2 kids. They were converting our apartment into a condo so I had to pay an obscene amount of money for a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment or move. I found a 3 bdrm 2 bath house with a yard.
