Lost my job today

So I lost my job today :( and am now feeling a bit lost and angry. I just feel that they were never looking to keep anyone in the position long term, and I've just wasted the last 2 and a half months with them when I could of waited around and got a different job with long term career prospects.
What really has annoyed me is the fact that when I went for the interview they made the point that they were looking for someone long term etc.
Suppose I ought to start rewriting my cv and job hunting.

So sorry to hear that. It really stinks that they didn't give you advance notice so that you could start looking for something else. Yes, update your resume with the additional skills you've acquired from that job and start posting away. Also, try to get references from your supervisor. Don't feel blue - in this day and age it's happening to even the best people. :) Keep OP and optimistic.

Good luck!

Hang in there, girl!
I've been there. Breath and pay attention to doing your best job today for yourself.
Remember that any company, office is lucky to have you!

Sincerely,
Belinda

djs06 03-21-2011 12:31 PM

How horrible. I'm so sorry to hear that. I will keep my fingers crossed that something better comes along quickly for you!

Miss Blue 03-21-2011 12:34 PM

Thanks for your kind words. Have just had a work out and feel a million times better, think I just needed to vent out the anger and frustration

On the bright side, you made some money and you don't have a 2 1/2 mo blank spot on your CV.

Some employers develop bad habits in their hiring/firing practices. They think (erroneously) that it is cheaper for them to keep training someone than to keep them beyond the probationary period and have to offer benefits. Their loss.

There's a better fit out there somewhere. It more than just an old saying: When one door shuts there's another that's open.

Good Luck.

My pregnant sister just got fired from her crappy job too. Conveniantly, it was right before she was about to qualify for benefits, and would have been able to take maternity leave. This call center has a track record for doing this, and then hiring them back after six months. My sister has worked there twice. She was desperate for a job besides fast food last time, and says never again!

One door closes and another opens right...

CrystalZ10 03-22-2011 09:32 PM

Yucky..well I am sure you'll find another job soon and with better pay too. Just hang in there. :)

Miss Blue 03-23-2011 02:56 PM

Thank you. I am trying to keep positive with the whole one door closes another one opens, but just feel a bit empty at the moment. Am currently sat trying to work out what I actually want to do with my life at the moment. Hopefully some inspiration will come to me soon!

I am so sorry about this. Looking for a new job is one of the hardest things. In a few months, when you find the perfect job, you will look back and be thankful you had the opportunity to move onward.
Best of luck my dear. May the sun shine down on you today.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hang in there.
I'm in the same boat. The company I worked for closed their doors and now I am unemployed. And snacking is on the brain when I'm depressed and stressed. LOL But, I'm trying to be strong. Hope you are being strong too when it comes to the snacking.

Good luck will come our way soon. ;-)

Good Luck on your interview :)

Hi Miss Blue, this is probably a long shot... but my company is hiring. Where do you live, and what field are you in?

MonicaM 04-07-2011 02:36 PM

My advice is to take the first job you are comfortable accepting; then, when you have been there a month or so, put your resume out on websites. Many established small businesses only look at applications from suitable, qualified applicants who are currently employed in their field, but looking for a better working condition. I know this because my father and my husband both own small businesses that I do the paperwork for.

I live in East Sussex near Brighton. Ideally I would like to do office work, but at the moment I think I'd give anything a go.

I didn't get offered the job today, it all comes down to the same answer, there was nothing wrong we just gave it to someone with more experience. I believe there is something better waiting round the corner, just hope it's not a long journey to get there!

cbmare 04-08-2011 02:44 PM

Why don't you list your skills here and let's put our collective head together and see if we can help? Someone on here will probably come up with some sort area for you to aim your search.

In fact, perhaps there should be a thread started and we can work together for quite a few people.
