how do i forget every month???? (maybe tmi)

So, I had an IUD inserted about 2 years ago. I absolutely love LOVE it, no issues, it's non-hormonal so I always feel like myself. The ONLY thing that's changed is about a week before tom I get super bloated. Like to the point where I'm CONVINCED I'm pregnant again or that I gained ten lbs overnight (it's never done that on the scale, just in my head).

I spent the first half of today thinking I would need to buy a pregnancy test after work. . .then I looked at the ovulation/girly time calendar I have on my phone and realized it was just my pre-menstrual bloat. I just can't figure out how I forget every single month. Has anyone else had this issue?????

I had an iud then had my tubes tied and my period is a total surprise every time

I don't have an IUD, but yeah, "Aunt Flo" surprises me every month. Needless to say, it always happens when I have one or no tampons in the house.

You'd think that after almost 30 years of dealing with this, I'd learn to buy a box for next month. You'd think I'd remember roughly when "next month" should be. You'd think I wouldn't mention this ghastly confession of my oblivious nature on a public forum. Sadly, you would be wrong on all counts.

So yeah, I can absolutely believe that two years of having an IUD wouldn't be long enough not to get The Scare every month. I don't think that's at all unusual. If I had an IUD, I'd probably have to write it on a Post-It and stick it to my mirror: "No, It's Just Your Period Again. Also, Buy Tampons." :D

I don't know if you watch big bang theory, but on one episode sheldon was going on and on about how much money women would save if they bulk bought enough feminine hygene products to last them thier whole lives.

Just curious, how old were you when you got your tubes tied??? I will probably have mine done as soon as I can.

:p Every month it's like a cruel, unexpected joke.

How has the IUD worked out for you? I've been thinking about it...or something like it. I can't handle the hormonal birth controls. They make me a spaz! And I really want something long term...I've heard they're not big on giving IUDs to women who don't have children, though.

My co-workers and I are all three on the same cycle and every month it seems we will all be mad at our significant others at the same time. Usually one of us will remind the other two that TOM is why we are all complaining and that we're all getting ready to start (and that no one is allowed to file for divorce during the next three to five days). We've often laughed that at our ages this shouldn't be a monthly suprise.

I absolutely love it. I check the string once a month to make sure it's still there, no pregnancies or scares evn though my ex and I didn't use condoms (we are both STD free I made sure to see his test results). I don't have to do anything daily and LOVE not having hormones make me all goofy. I have never had any kind of prescription (minus antibiotics maybe twice) and don't even take tylenol. Maybe I'm a little too "granola" but I like feeling clear and levelheaded.

The reason it's usually not advised for women who haven't had a baby is that your uterus hasn't been stretched to have an IUD fit comfortably. That increases the chances of your body expelling it or it perforating the uterus. I think there are some concerns too about potential scarring which can lead to infertility. a friend of mine had one without having had a kid first and she said it was a bit uncomfortable for her at times. She didn't get pregnant with it though.

IUD RELATED FUNNY STORY- when my ex and I were discussing contraception, I told him I had an IUD and he said, "Like, you got caught drunk driving?? What does that have to do with anything?!?!"

Yeah I have the same one as you, and I've never had a baby. They told me not to worry about my body expelling it, because it's still really rare, the chances are just higher if you've never had a baby. I've had mine over a year and never had problems. I just get cramps around my period, which I never had, and my period is heavier for 2 of the days. I get really bloaty too right before, but by the 2nd day of my period it's gone.

I dunno if you have a smartphone, but you can download a period app. I did that and I leave notes on the days that I have sex (JUST in case haha), and the days my period is really heavy so I can see a pattern. It's kinda cool actually, and then your period isn't a surprise.

I am going to jump in here. I got my tubes tied when I was 31. It was 2 days after I had my 4th baby. I cried through the whole thing. My DH and I decided 4 was good. We were done. Then as I am about to go into surgery he said "Are you sure? Maybe one more?" I could have killed him. Anyways, I was very happy not to have to worry about birth control anymore. Now I am going to see my doctor about an endometrial ablasion. My sister had it done and no more periods. She still gets cramps and mood swings, but nothing else. Can't wait to talk with my doc.
