I've been working at Mcdonalds and I really hate it! We get one 30 min break per 7 hour and 15 minute shift. The managers/person will tell you when to go on break...and I just wondered what the law on how long you can go without a break is?
I am 24 so not a minor. I live in PA
Today I worked 8-1 without a break...
And, this is usually how it goes! The positive thing is, a late break makes the rest of my shift feel like it goes by faster. However, after I go so long without food or drink I started to "burn out" or something. I can't imagine this can be good for me? So, I was just curious as to what the laws are...

It's going to vary state by state. In CA, I think it's you're entitled to a 15 minute break after 5 hours and a 30 minute, unpaid, break after 6 hours (but I no longer live in CA, or get paid hourly, so don't quote me on it!)

In PA, apparently breaks are not required if you are 18 or older.

That sounds about right to me, when I worked in a grocery store we got half an hour each 8 hour shift. That's how it is in those crappy settings.

My current job we get two 15 minute breaks and a half hour paid lunch. I am here from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. I go on a longer lunch so half of it's not paid.

wow you would think you'd at least be entitled to a 10 minute break in there somewhere.
in oregon an eight hour shift gets you a lunch break- either 30 or 60 minutes, and two 10 minute breaks. if you work 6.5 hours you HAVE to take a lunch.

In the state of Utah employers are required to give employees a one hour break. However, it isn't always in a one hour block. For example, I work in the school district and typically take a 15 minute break in the morning and then a 45 minute lunch break at one o'clock. You should probably do a little research (which can be done by a quick Google ) and find out what the law requires in your state. An additional note, if you are working during your "breaks" or "lunch hour", I would bet you're not getting paid for that. Either they pay you for your overtime or you get a designated break/lunch time.

Thanks. So I guess they are still within the rules...it just sounds like a bad idea to make an employee work that long. Some people, especially diabetics, cannot go long without food like that...
And no, we really aren't supposed to have drinks. If the GM comes in and see drinks back there (even water) you can get into trouble. Of course, that doesn't stop people from having them...But I try to follow the rules...lol

I don't think they can deny you water! Or bathroom breaks.
