KathleanAgain: you're doing great -- the second week is always the hardest. My story feels much better at 20,000 words than it did it 15,000!
Hope everyone has a good and productive weekend! |
OK, I've never been any kind of a creative writer, but I just wanted to pop in and say I think it's so cool that you guys are doing this! Rock on! :carrot:
|
Thanks, just keep swimming! It's fun -- especially all the support and camaraderie surrounding the event.

Half-way through November! How is everyone doing?
I got to 25,042 words last night, so I'm happy! |
I basically did nothing on week two at all and spent today catching up. I don't want to say "good thing i was in too much pain to go to work today" but well- it did give me a chance to write all day. I'm almost caught up to where I should be - I'm at 23844 words. I like where my story is headed and I feel good about it. Here's hoping i can keep it up.
As much fun as this is, it sure is a challenge not to go back and read and edit. I can't wait to do that because as much as I like to write, I like to edit and tweak even more. |
lizziep: sorry your sick, but that was a great job that you did getting nearly caught up!
I'm still caught up and have a write-in tonight so I know that I'll stay caught up today. It's the days without write-ins that I tend to fall behind on. |
I got myself over 30,000 on schedule late last night. I'm hoping to get a bit ahead over this weekend in case things fall apart during the holiday week.
My story, right now, is stuck in Groundhog's Day, I keep writing new versions of the same scene (leaving all the words, of course, because it's NaNoWriMo and because who knows which version of the scene I'll decide works best in December) because I can't seem to get it right. I thought of a way last night, though, to get things moving again, so I'm looking forward to writing something new later today. |
panic is setting in. anyone else?!
|
lizziep: I'm still on track, but had really hoped to be a day ahead. For the last two days, I've been world-building rather than moving my plot along because I needed to know more about the world in order to move the plot along! I hope today that I can make it move.

One week left! How is everyone doing?
I rewrote my plan last night to see if I can get to 50,000 words on Sunday during our final official write-in. It will be the last write-in that I get to attend this month and it's so much fun to hit 50,000 during a write-in. So, that's motivating me. I wrote over 2000 words yesterday and will have to write at least that much every day to make my goal on Sunday. My story is finally moving again! That helps with the word count. |
I had to give up again this year. My grandma (92) has been in and out of the hospital, and she can't feed herself so I have to be up there to feed her and sit with her for hours on end. It's draining, but it's time with Grandma. Good luck to all of you. You're in the home stretch. You can do it!
|
so sorry to hear about your grandma cutie... i hope everything works out okay.
i got a snow day so i've got no excuses i will work off and on all day. |
Thanks for the encouragement CanadianCutie! Good for you for taking care of your grandma.
Have a good, and productive, snow day, lizziep! I wrote 2000 words yesterday. I may try for 3000 today so that I don't have to write as much tomorrow and still be on track to finish on Sunday. |
I managed 2500 words on Wednesday and 1500 yesterday before all the festivities started. I have a write-in this morning that has been productive for me all month, so I hope to be in good shape to finish my 50,000 words on Sunday, two days early.
|
I hope to hit 50,000 words this afternoon at the last write-in that I get to attend this year. It will take writing 3000 words today, which is a lot but doable. I'm going to try for over 1000 this morning so that I don't have to do quite so much during the two hours I have in the afternoon.

I Finished!!!!!!!
|
There's been so much going on with friends and family and my health issues, that I didn't get nearly as far this year as last year. And for some reason, I just couldn't leave finished scenes alone. Instead of moving on to new material, I kept working and reworking the same scenes (they are better for it, but I needed to spend more time writing than rewriting).
|
i had a really hard time not doing that- i just told myself that part was done with and moved on and kept moving. i'm so excited that i finished. there is a lot of work to be done to fix it- it is a very rough draft.
|
lizziep: yay! Congratulations!
kaplods: I spent several days in the middle writing new versions of one scene, keeping the old version so that I didn't sacrifice my word count. I have a very bizarre manuscript right now. I finished at my write-in yesterday. Everyone cheered! I typed "The End" about 200 words later, but I had to call in the cavalry for a quick rescue to make that happen. I want to work on this story some more and the ending will almost certainly change when I do, so I couldn't get myself to put more effort into it right now. |
yeah, i finished by story but was about 400 words short, so i just added a bunch of stuff i thought i'd missed before so i can edit it into the story later, like descriptions of characters and stuff. i was annoyed that i couldn't have a nice wrap up, but there's going to be a lot of editing to be done anyway.
