Nelie- I felt the same way after reading Dogs of Babel- even though it's on my re-read list and is one of my favorites. it's gut wrenching.
I also experienced this recently when I read the book Lucy by Laurence Gonzales. |
I love Carolyn Parkhurst - I've enjoyed all 3 books I've read.
Glad to hear Lucy is worthwhile, it's on my request list at the library! |
So strange that you picked the exact same author. For me it was
Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. James Ivory did an excellent job with the film adaption also, I think. I'm always not sure how I feel when a book is so well-written but does not end the way I want it to. deena:) |
For me it was an Alice Hoffman book...I loved the Story Sisters and Practical
magic but some of the others were just down right depressing.. |
i was surprised that i liked Lucy as much as I did. not my usual type of book, but it was excellent.
had to start re-reading The Dogs of Babel after this thread. Ever since I was a kid I have always wanted to read sad books. Some sick thing in me that likes to be a voyeur into other people's pain or something I guess. |
