Well..the movie hasn't come out yet, but they mention it in the trailer. But to make you feel better..I'll go back and put up a spoiler warning, even it it's too late.

Nelie- I felt the same way after reading Dogs of Babel- even though it's on my re-read list and is one of my favorites. it's gut wrenching.

I also experienced this recently when I read the book Lucy by Laurence Gonzales.

I love Carolyn Parkhurst - I've enjoyed all 3 books I've read.

So strange that you picked the exact same author. For me it was
Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.

James Ivory did an excellent job with the film adaption also, I think.

I'm always not sure how I feel when a book is so well-written but does not end the way I want it to.

For me it was an Alice Hoffman book...I loved the Story Sisters and Practical
magic but some of the others were just down right depressing..

i was surprised that i liked Lucy as much as I did. not my usual type of book, but it was excellent.

had to start re-reading The Dogs of Babel after this thread. Ever since I was a kid I have always wanted to read sad books. Some sick thing in me that likes to be a voyeur into other people's pain or something I guess.
