I spent my first 11 years as an only child, and then my mom remarried and I had two step-brothers. They never lived with us, but we'd get them every other weekend and went on summer vacations together as children. That being said, we don't have anything in common now, and I live 2 1/2 hours away, so I rarely see them. I think it was over 3 years before I saw the older brother (sadly, it was at their mother's funeral). I'm kinda annoyed about it, because they rarely see my parents who live in the same town as they do. Their wives insist on doing everything with their own families, so we don't even get to spend Christmas Eve or Christmas with them. None of my family is close (except my mom and I), and I regret that more as I get older.
