MAN V. FOOD...aykm

I was channel surfing and although I have never seen this show before I have heard a little about it.

I just watched this guy drink a 6 pound milkshake and eat 7.5 pounds of meat in a sandwich...

tons of heavy and skinny people rooting him on....

very chubby kids cheering him on too...

What in the heck is wrong with us??

sunflowergirl68 06-16-2010 02:21 PM

Don't hate on Man vs Food! I LOVE that show!

The point of the show is for him (the host) to go around to all the best chow-down places in the US, and to the places with the competitions. And they're all mom-and-pop locally owned places, so they get coverage and people then go visit them.

It's a great show and I've actually visited a few places that he's gone to and they're really good restaurants. The host is a foodie and said he's held every job in the restaurant business and basically loves finding new places.

lol...SUNFLOWER...

not hating on the guy....I actually have found the few shows I have just seen, as I do chores, somewhat entertaining...

the food looks great!

Would love to try it all!!!

but again I say....

WHAT'S WRONG WITH US!!

Don't watch the show so I don't know if there's a reason behind it...

but why can't he just go to the places and eat normal amounts? What's the point in a 6 pound milkshake?

dragonwoman64 06-16-2010 03:30 PM

probably too boring to watch someone eat a regular milkshake

sunflowergirl68 06-16-2010 03:31 PM

Because it's called Man Vs Food. He does go to other places and eats normal amounts. He usually goes to two restaurants per episode, per city, one is just a good eatery and the other has some sort of competition. Hence the 6-lb milkshake. It depends on where he goes, some places have HUGE portions and others have extremely spicy dishes you have to eat. At one place he had to eat five habanero fritters in five minutes.

Its fun and entertaining to watch and gives you a place to go and eat if you visit the city he went to.

My fiance said it's really a guy thing, the whole eating large portions in a competition. I don't get it, I'd never do anything like that.

M vs F came to Alaska during the huge "It's Tougher In Alaska" craze and did a show at a place really close to where I work. It's a place lots of locals go to, and now it's getting even more business as tourist season hits. We're happy for the publicity!

But I completely agree. Gluttony, anyone? It's no wonder we're so fat when we not only indulge in such an insane caloric intake ourselves - but we glorify it and even watch it as a re-run in our spare time. Likely while also binging, ourselves. Food Network always makes me want to munch!

I watched a few more shows today because of the marathon leading up to the new season...

I find it hilarious...entertaining...and disgusting all in one!

ATTENTION MODERATORS ~ If you are not asleep at the wheel could I get an A between m & n in the title....

dang spell check let me down again!

Has your fiance ever heard of Sonya Thomas? She's a competitive eater with 37 world records. Incidentally she weighs just 97 pounds.

I have to admit, I have watched the show, more than once :o :D

blindcantaloup 06-18-2010 08:19 PM

That show is like porn for overeaters. I live in Springfield, IL and he did an episode here in town.. I've been to 1 of the 3 restaurants and it was delicious but very unhealthy!

My thoughts exactly.

No I don't get it but then I don't get food competitions. I suppose for many its vicarious gluttony but frankly it just makes feel sick.

I love the show but I can't watch it. Gives me the serious urge to binge.

After he went to Hash House a Go Go in Las Vegas, we went to the San Diego location. The portions are big but the food is GREAT. We were glad to find out a gem was in SD (He also went to the Broken Yolk in San Diego, but we already knew that place was great).

Hash House!
