Snake in the washer!

Ah! Crazy day, just gotta get it out....

So I went to put some towels in the washing machine this afternoon and there was a snake up in the barrel of the washing machine! I was TOTALLY freaked and called my apartment manager. Hubby was sleeping, so didn't want to wake him. The maintenance came within minutes, and my father in law came too. They had to take apart the entire washing machine, and finally got it out! We live in Central California, and have NEVER seen a wild snake before! So creepy.

Ok, I feel better. :) I need to finish my laundry, but fairly terrified I'm going to open the top and another one will be in there!

I grew up in WY where we do have a few poisonous snakes. Kings(non-poisonous) look just like Rattlers(poisonous), but without the rattles(duh). People would try to tell me how to tell the difference in other snakes. I was like, "Um, ya, STFU. I'll simply run first and ask later, Thank You very much."

OMG! That is truly frightening! I would forever be looking inside my washing machine with trepidation!
Funny, I also had a snake encounter this week here on the other side of the US in Florida. I went to put my garbage can out on the street for pickup. As I approached the side of the road, a long black snake slithered away into the woods. Apparently it was as scared of me as I was of him. They must be coming out of their winter hibernation!
Hope you got your clothes washed!

I have had a snake for the last few years, but I could only see the belly of it, so I thought it may be a rattler. Fortunately it ended up being a gopher snake. Still bites pretty hard though! It got my father in law real good! We had a long winter, i think they just want to come out to play.

lol I'm a herp lover and certified to handle/keep venomous (I don't because of my kids but it came in handy when I worked for a nature center in New Orleans)

What you did is totally smart if you aren't familiar with snakes :) He probably followed his food source under the washing machine and then decided to explore his surroundings!

That would totally be my reaction. I would never sit there and wonder "Hmm what are you?" Heck no, ruuuuuuuun! LOL
I live in the country side in North TX and I know we have snakes, dh killed one a year ago. and neighbors have told me they see them around. I'm just glad they're not out when I'm out.
We went to Colorado last year for a couple of weeks and when we were out driving around in Boulder, I saw a snake on a busy road squirming around because it just got run over. It freaked me out so bad I swerved around it.
I think I would be avoiding the laundry area for weeks thinking snakes had made it their home. LOL

Ugh, I HATE snakes and have seen too many around this house! And the one was huge a little bigger than the one running up the side of your house, ick...then 3 smaller ones. I told the hubby if I see one more snake while mowing I QUIT! I tried to get them all with the mower (sorry snake lovers) but they were too fast, lol! I was freaked for a while because the huge one went in my front garden bed underneath the mulch...I was afraid to do anything there for the longest time and still am leary.

I hope you don't believe in Karma :X

I'm terrified of flying roaches but I do respect thier place on this earth & try to take preventative measures instead of out right killing.

Lori259 05-02-2010 08:31 PM

LOL~Yeah I still check where it was everyday & where the other one was every day (other than the pantry we tore it outta the house during a remodel)~SNAKES ARE SO FREAKY TO ME! I took several pics of it cause I thought I would never believe that is someone told me or see that again in a million years proboly!~i have more pics of how huge it was with the hubby holding it But it was dead(yes thats sad) & figure some may not wannna see that one cause some people do not believe in killing stuff~but he had to this one.
