Plus size- when will it finally end???

I've been wondering this for a while, although I've always been in the 20's (pant sizes) for my adult life. So at what point can I consider myself no longer "plus sized"?

What do you think- what kinds of sizes are we talking about here? I'm a 16 now, which I think is plus... right?

luvja 04-27-2009 09:11 PM

I think plus size is considered 14 and up. I could be wrong. But in my opinion, you are no longer in plus sizes girl!

kelly315 04-27-2009 09:12 PM

you're probably right. All my life, 14 seemed tiny!

luvja 04-27-2009 09:13 PM

I know what you mean. I was size 24 for EVER. I can't remember not being a size 24, now I'm a 20.... to think of NOT being in the 20's soon excites me to no end!! :D

14 and up is my understanding. But I think there are some plus stores that are now carrying a 12.

For me, I think I'll always be plus or on the verge. I'm tall and big-boned. When I'm a 12, I look like a stick!

lizziep 04-27-2009 09:32 PM

For me its more about store then about size. when i can go into any store i want to and buy something off the rack- then I'm no longer plus sized. seems to me that is 14 or 16 - so I'd say you're right on the cusp.

i hope i can be on the cusp some day or even better... less then that! :)

My opinion is, how it's cut. Plus sizes I've tried on tend to be cut for curvier figures ~ smaller waist, bigger hips and chest. Misses sizes tend to have less differential between waist, and hip/chest. I wear a 20 misses and a 18 women's (plus).

So... depending on how you're built, technically you may no longer be a "plus" size. :) I am very curvy (small waist big chest/hips) so if/when I (hopefully) get to 12, or 10, I may have to have stuff altered in order for it to fit.

Just my $.02. Some folks may not equate "women's" sizes with "plus" but I do.

That's how I always saw it too, DC. Kelly, I would say that if your size 16 doesn't have a "W" after it, then you're not in a plus size!

I am also in a size 16 and some 14's depending on brands.
I always thought plus size was 14 and up~
But I just googled it and it says 12 and up!
Heres what i found:

So I guess we gotta get into a size 10 before it will FINALLY end.

Your doing great KELLY~I always look at your numbers to make sure I am doing ok still LOL~Since we are always 5 to 10 lbs apart on weight.Plus we are shaped somewhat similiar~and I am just 1 inch taller than you.
So You help me stay motivated!~T-H-A-N-K-S

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU THAT YOU ARE NEARING ONEDERLAND!
I can not wait to get there.

I agree with the previous posts about reg versus womens sizing. A size 16 at Lane Bryant is a big difference from a 16 Eddie Bauer. So I considered I was no longer plus size when I was able to start shopping in 'regular' stores!

I would agree that 14 is not "plus" sized. Most Misses depts go up to 14 or 16 before you need to migrate over to Women's.

//biased. I'm currently a 12/14 pants but Medium in most tops.

JulieJ08 04-27-2009 11:07 PM

It's partly cut and not just size. For a long time I could never get anything that fit. I was a size 14-16, and Misses 14-16 were getting tight, but Women's or Plus 14-16 just fit wrong. There was too much rise in the front of pants to accomodate belly and too much fabric in the front belly area of tops, and I was big all over, but not so much in the belly. Then ... the weight started depositing in the belly, and Plus sizes started to fit right. It was one thing that pushed me to lose weight, because I realized I wasn't just getting larger, my whole overall shape was changing. It made me worry that probably it meant I was changing metabolically too.

Snap. Our stats are almost identical. I'm guessing as you're in medium tops that you have a small waist but bigger round the hips.

When I got into my size 14 pants I went and deleted all my plus size communities I was in on LiveJournal. I still consider myself to be borderline but even now some 14s are a bit loose.

I am absolutely stunned at the changes in you!! I love the way you put your pictures side by side for us to see. I personnaly consider size 14 to be a "normal" size. Good luck !
