Easter songs

I'm not Christian but my parents are and as a little girl, i went to church and would listen to my dad sing. He used to do this song (and sounded better than this version but there ya go). My husband was just wondering why there were no 'Easter carols' like we have Christmas songs and it prompted me to search for a few I remember from going to church. They still give me goosebumps as I've always loved music and most of my memories have songs attached.

So this is for everyone celebrating Easter this morning for more than just chocolate eggs and a 4 day week end. :)

Mummy Tummy, thankyou! and that's really generous of you to post.

I'm just in from leading the Easter service, one baby was baptized and it was a really good affair.

Someone came in from the Diocese and awarded me an Easter egg, as a prize, he said, for getting off to such a good start (I've only been here since mid-Jan). How nice! I'm eating it now for lunch - calorie counted of course!

Have a great day!

Ailidh, you're a vicar, then? I'm American but live in the UK. The pre-school I used to manage (until 2 weeks ago and now I'm off to a new job) was run from a church hall and the church wardens and vicar were absolutely lovely, supportive people. Hehe, I was managing an outdoor project that needed permission from the higher-ups and kept asking the vicar about the Arch-Diocese and he explained to me that in the CofE, there's no 'Arch'. :D I'm glad your eatser service and the baptism went well. Enjoy the egg!

Although if you say you're eating an Easter egg to Americans, we'll assume you mean a hard-boiled one, not chocolate!:p

I haven't found a new church since I moved, and couldn't make it back to my hometown for Easter, and one of the things I missed most was the Easter music!

My very favorite has always been the hymn "Christ Arose"... I can remember when I was little, I'd get sooo excited when it got near Easter because I'd get to hear that song.

I'll try to find a good youtube video of it later... the first few I checked were slow and boring... or a quartet arrangement that I'm not a big fan of.
