Why

is wine so high in calories?

techwife 01-02-2009 06:55 PM

Check out port wine...if you can stand it. I think it tastes like cough syrup, myself. I know of some sugar bustin buddies that choose port, though.

junebug41 01-02-2009 07:16 PM

Actually, I've always preferred wine because I can get away with a couple of glasses for the price of a snack (200-250 calories). I've always found it pretty easy to work it in. Doesn't mean I haven't put away almost a whole bottle- now that is not diet friendly!

Margs/frozen drinks on the other hand....

AngelD 01-02-2009 07:16 PM

Eww port! I'd rather not have anything if that was all that was on offer.

I'm just pretending the one glass I am currently sipping VERY slowly has none.

momof4boys 01-02-2009 07:25 PM

Hi ,
I thought I would say Hello, as your name mom of 4 girls caught my eye!
Yes , wine is pretty fattening and I always think it is only worth drinking when it is really good wine-then valuing its taste and (of course how much we've paid for it) it is sipped very.. slowly...

junebug41 01-02-2009 07:27 PM

FYI: Wine= fat free food :)

river 01-02-2009 07:41 PM

I wish wine was zero calories, especially champagne and sparkling wines. But I like them all, red, white, and port too.

I'll add ... why does vodka have so many calories. Good grief. It *looks* like water ... right? So ... where are all the damn calories. ;)

river 01-02-2009 08:32 PM

That's it! Wine for a fruit serving and tequila for a veggie serving :p

PhotoChick 01-02-2009 08:44 PM

Julie, I like the way you think. Let's see .. my vodka was made from grapes, so that's another fruit serving.

Hm. This could get dangerous fast.

Breakfast: wine
Lunch: tequila
Dinner: bourbon (that's rye, right? so a grain)
Dessert: vodka

There you go. Fruit, veggie, grain, fruit. Healthy. Perefectly ... hic ... healthy.

.

GatorgalstuckinGA 01-02-2009 08:47 PM

lol at photochick...i like your menu there.

JulieJ08 01-02-2009 08:51 PM

I'm a veggie girl. Tequila all the way.

Schumeany 01-02-2009 09:18 PM

Hey Red Wine is FULL of anti-oxidants...healthy calories... :D

JulieJ08 01-02-2009 10:12 PM

So, I wonder if it occurred to anyone to *look* for antioxidants in tequila? Hmmm? Thought so.

Schumeany 01-02-2009 10:15 PM

Worms are protein. ;)

Exactly.

I work dry red wine into my plan daily. I found some wonderful, beautiful 4 oz. tapered glasses - pour the glass 3/4 full.
Two of these work perfectly into my plan :)

The thing is, I would lose weight on that plan if I didn't eat anything. I wouldn't live long though. :dizzy:

river 01-03-2009 07:30 AM

Seriously though, I have to really restrict alcohol calories, because I have a tendency to go overboard after a drink or two, it turns into 4 or 7. Plus my body holds onto weight if I drink. :(

momof4girls 01-03-2009 08:25 AM

 I was enjoying my "fruit" serving when I posted this last night.
