  • I just called my dad to share with him the good news, that I've lost ten lbs, just because I'm telling everybody I can... anyways.. It really upset me because he keeps giving negative comments like (let me just explain, that when I was younger he would offer me money to lose weight, so finally when I decided to for real, I called him up to ask if he was still interested, and he said yes) anyways... He thinks that I'm just losing some quick weight for the money... and he keeps saying things like, if I pay you, you better not gain it all back! or you better stick with it.... GRR..... I tried to explain to him that it's not a joke this time. I just want him to believe in me.

    In tears.
  • I think if I were you I would not accept the money from him for your weight loss.

Honestly, I might think the same thing if money was a motivation from my father.

Ten pounds!!! WOO HOOOOO for you!!!!!! Great job!
  • *hug*

Your 10 pound loss is absolutely fantastic. You should be completely delighted about it and you should feel able to be proud and tell people who care about it, because it is a brilliant achievement.

I'm really sorry to hear about the way your dad is reacting to your success so far. I think sometimes people just don't understand how significant and serious the attitude to losing weight can be. It's really discouraging when people are cynical and dismissive about commitments that you are determined to make. Whether or not you accept his offer of a monetary reward is up to you, and I think it's a separate issue. To me it seems like what you really want is for him to have faith in you and to be able to be enthusiastic with your success. Perhaps the money aspect is clouding that a bit, but I don't know.

All the best, I really hope you feel better soon.
  • Well... I can see why you would tell me not to accept the money, but I'm 18, he has money, I haven't lived with him since I was 16 and in a weird way, I kind of feel like it's the least he could do. Long story but anyways... I am going to take the money, because I guess I'm young and selfish. It is 1000 dollars after all. I'm not complaining in any way of the money part, because I know deep down the only reason he ever offered the money is because he wanted me to get healthy and be happy... My issue is only that I don't feel like he believes in me. You're right tiny, I am very proud of myself. It's a huge accomplishment for me, and I'm not going to stop, that'll show him not to doubt me.
  • Oh and thank you for the congrats jamie
  • OMG $1000! Why ain't he my Daddy!?
Just wanted to say, TEN POUNDS ALREADY!?? FREAKING AWESOME!
  • haha 1000 for 50 lbs... and 1000 for the next 50.... I bet he regrets ever making the offer now or he will soon anyways. And thank you.. I can't believe it either, I can't wait to see how fast it goes when I get the elliptical in here.
  • holy crap!!! That's a lot of money!!!! I need to talk to my father about this...

    tee hee!
  • lol I didn't realize it at the time he offered (around 14 or 15)... that he was doing it for my best interest... I just thought he wanted a model daughter to show off to his lebanese cultured friends and crap.
  • I might wait a few to take any money... just to show him (and yourself) that you're doing this for real, and not for any cash.

He probably thinks saying what he did would encourage you to continue (even though it's not the best thing for him to say).

Keep going on. He'll either catch on himself that you know what you're doing & you're serious, or you'll just prove him wrong when you get to the end
  • That's a very good point.... He's going to see me at christmas, and there's already a noticeable change in me (according to my aunt, mom and best friend). And My guess is the next time he'll really see me, dressed up and all, will be in september when my step sister gets married.... I can't wait to see the faces on everybody when they see me. My goal is to be 220 by then. Which I calculated out as two lbs per week, and the occasional 3lbs per week, which is the rate I'm going.
  • and P.S. I'm one hundred percent sure I'm doing it for myself already, because I only remembered two weeks after making the commitment to myself, that he offered me money at one time. lol The money to me is just the cherry on the cake.
  • So, after you've lost the first 50 lbs., your Dad will give you $1000? Congratulations on your 10 pounds off ... you're doing great!
  • Well, It's ten dollars a pound and I collect that as I do, whenever I want... so right now I can be like "okay that's 100" and then when I hit 50 lbs, 500 dollars in my hand
  • Hey, you are doing great. When I started my journey, I told no one. I just started doing it. That way, I didn't have to dodge crappy comments. Good luck and you can do it--you have already proven that.
