Hmm... My all time favorites:
From Potter's Field by Patricia Cornwell (I'm a big fan of her Kay Scarpetta series)
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
Call of the Wild by Jack London (childhood favorite)
The Good Dog by Avi (childhood favorite)
...and since I've been on a reading kick lately, I'm sure there are plenty more to come.

Oooh, too many choices. My favorite books as a child were The Borrowers (and the books that came afterwards) by Mary Norton. Those still hold a special place in my heart. My favorite author is Agatha Christie (a shout out to you other Agatha Christie fans). It's hard for me to pick a favorite Agatha Christie, but I generally prefer those with Poirot to those with Marple, Quin, or Tuppence and Tommy.

My favorites include Beloved by Toni Morrison, Red Tent by Anita Diamant, To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee, All Over but the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg, any of the Harry Potters, and I also really enjoy the Death of a _____ series by MC Beaton.

If it is a book that I became emotionally involved in - like Beloved, or Red Tent, or To Kill a Mockingbird, I haven't wanted to re-read it. It is almost too painful to want to re-read. Other books, like any Agatha Christie book or the Hamish McBeath Death of a _series, I can re-read. They are much lighter with less emotional involvement. I read so much that in a couple of years, I've generally forgotten who the murderer is, so if I pick one up to re-read it, no harm is done. :)
