Butter Me Up PLZZZ!
OK, I'm always :?: confused :?: about this one ~
Is butter better for your health or not? At times I read articles that say the imitations are full of  bad things. Obviously I know butter isn't exactly good for you...but is it better or not? Angie will only use butter...I switch between butter and Land O' Lakes Light Butter with canola oil. What do you use if you don't use butter? |
I stick (pardon the pun) with butter, just try to use it sparingly.

butter. the only time I will use the fake stuff is at my parents house.
|
I usually use the spray butter so I don't mistakenly put more than I need to on food. I'll use butter for baking, but most of the time I substitute fat free cream cheese instead, or half FF cream cheese half butter. It's interesting =]

I have always heard large quantities of butter is bad for you. I have gotten into the habit of using a spray butter with no carbs and very few calories. It doesn't taste as good, but I think it's a bit healthier then having butter every day. But a little real butter every now and then probably won't hurt your dieting efforts.

Gary - there was a long thread on butter vs. other options about 3 -4 weeks ago. If I could find the thread, I would post the link here. The opinions were diverse and many of them (opinions) were quite strong.
I use real butter... albeit rarely and sparingly. I've had it on corn on the cob about 3x this summer. I'm not a bread eater, so I don't have to worry about what to put on my toast or English muffin or dinner roll. My great aunt, who just went into a nursing home about 2 months ago, spent her childhood on a farm. She has always eaten real butter, eggs, bacon, etc., but she also eats tons of vegetables (she loves anything fresh from the garden). She says hard work and her faith is what has kept her going (she's sharp as a tack), but her diet must not have hurt her. Did I say she turned 101 in May 2008? |

i use butter as a treat, but grew up on what my mother called "Oleo margarine" Now I use either Parkay or Shedds spred, I figure if it hasn't killed me yet, it probably won't
I'm going to read that thread tho |
Butter is better IMHO. I won't say used sparingly, although I do mindfully use it and count every calorie. I like olive oil for cooking instead if it fits the recipe (sautéing veggies for instance)

THANK-YOU all for your input!
I probably will stick with what I usually use..... both! ;) |
My husband and I use real butter. We are just mindful of it and how much we use.
|
I like the sprays, but lve real butter every once and awhile.

The Land O' Lakes spread is butter and canola oil--no extra chemicals or anything.
We use it alot. We also occassionally use real butter. The problem with the fake stuff is all the chemicals that are hard to pronounce :) and the trans fats. Some of the newer margarines say they are trans fat free, but if they have less than a half a gram per serving, they can say that. The key is "per serving". If you go over the serving size, then you're obviously getting more. So, "they" say that you shouldn't consume any trans fat. Something about your body doesn't know how to use it, like it would a more "natural" substance. Anyway, I'm with you--I use both :) |
