Where to buy Plastic containers?

  • I'm possibly about to start a job and I would need to bring lunch, drinks and snacks. I have plastic containers to bring my food in but they are quite large. I like to eat my dinner left overs as opposed to sandwiches everyday. Does anybody know of individual serving size containers I can buy that are microwave and dishwasher safe? I also need a small container of some sort to have my salad dressing in as well. This would aid me greatly in staying OP.

    thanks for any help!
  • If you plan to microwave, I'd highly highly (HIGHLY) advise you against using plastic containers.

There are some good ceramic/glass options out there. I personally like snapware glass lock, which you can buy at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Here is an example of one:

You can also find other brands at Walmart/Target although snapware/glass lock is the only one where I haven't had an issue with dripping if something happens to be liquidy and the container is turned on its side.

You can also find small containers, even in the grocery store, for things like salad dressing. For me, I usually put my salad dressing on in the morning before work so I don't have another container to take and clean.
  • Thanks Nelie! You are right I completely forgot about plastic containers not being too great to microwave. I learned about this in my nutrition class I took last semester. I like salad so I dislike putting on my salad dressing on my salad in the morning. It makes my salad soggy. I took a look at the link you provided. I just have one question.. Are they fairly light weight? I will be working around children and I don't need these breaking if I happen to drop it on the floor or you never know with children!
  • They are not thin at all, they are fairly sturdy. I've dropped them on the floor and I was more worried about the floor.
  • Okay great! Thank you so much! I've bookmarked the website as a reminder if I get the job to go and run and get myself some.
  • I got a Pyrex set of serving size glass dishes at Target - three square/rectangular, three round. Snap on plastic lids, sturdy, love them, dropped them and didn't break them. I also have some serving size rubbermaid glass dishes with snap on lids with microwave vents. Also from Target I believe...
  • An empty glass spice bottle is perfect for salad dressing. Look in your spice cabinet and see if you have any OLD spices - if so, dump one, clean, and you have the perfect salad dressing container.
  • if you have a container store near you...they have a lot to chooose from ....if not look on line. They have a web site huge website with lots...here's a link

  • I completely forgot about the container store! There is one about 30 minutes from me but I would be willing to go that far since I really do need some storage options for my apartment as well and just make it into one big trip. I've just never done it since no moola but hopefully soon I will be able to.
  • I put salad dressing in a ziploc bag. Just snip the corner and squeeze the dressing out. Probably not the 'greenest' option, but an easy option.
  • Hey BRAT

I was going to suggest the Container Store too, if you had one. But don't tell Angie...every time we go see my daughter she just has to stop in at the one a mile from where Amanda lives. That store has cost me plenty
