Need advice for cameras
I'm in the search for a nice point and shoot camera. I have a great Rebel DS, however, I'm looking for a smaller camera to take to Italy (the rebel is too bulky). I'm looking for something that is lightweight, durable. I also want some thing with a decent zoom (doesn't have to be great..i'm realistic). I want one with decent picture quality. Extras like video etc can help.
So far i'm looking at the Nikon Cool pix s500 and Cannon powershoot sd1100 Any suggestions. Thanks! |
My husband is in the Photo industry and I read your post to him and he says anything with Nikon Cool Pix would be great. He was actually thinking Cool Pix before I read to him that you were thinking Cool Pix.

I love cannon products. I'm on my second cannon and only upgraded for a newer, slimmer one. I love it. I think they are the best cameras and I did a lot of research on it before I bought.

My mother just got the Nikon Coolpix S550 and LOVES it. I'm getting one as well before my vacation in September. The pictures are crystal clear!

Hey, I just posted the same question about a month ago. We were looking for a point and shoot for my daughter's HS grad gift. We went w/the Canon SD1000. It's a great little camera, fits into a pocket, takes fantastic pics and video w/sound. The software is easy peasy to use too. Check out the prices on Amazon -- best deal around. Good price, no tax, no shipping. The also had a camera case for the SD1000 (or SD 1100) for about $15.00. Well worth the bucks. I was actually contemplating buying myself a Canon SD1000 or SD1100. I like the bigger camera we have but sometimes just don't feel like carrying it around, ya know? I was using my daughter's on vacation and really liked the size. We were hoping she'd use it often, which she is -- even takes it along to her friends and stuff for the 'fun, goofy' kind of pics (which are always the best!). She's used this camera more in the past month than the one she got 5 years ago (Kodak 2.0 mp). She didn't even take the Kodak on a school trip to Florida because it was too bulky.

I have a Canon SD 1100 Powershoot and I LOVE it! Here are some shots I took with it. I am able to do some fancier shots and love to experiment. This camera is the best I have ever had in my life. My only recommendation is to get an extra Canon battery or two and charge them both up in case you aren't around plug-ins for a couple of days at a time. I only say this because you will be traveling.

I bought a Fujifilm F50 (12 megapixel) and I have died and gone to heaven. It's GREAT! What i like is that it has a rechargeable battery - just buy an outlet converter and you're set!!! It's not much bigger than an old fashioned casette (music) tape box

I'm biased, but I'm a huge fan of Sony's Cybershot Point and Shoots. The W line is especially nice.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. I have a bit more research to do..and need to find out from DH what he wants in a camera too. I use to have a smaller cannon a few years ago...and sold it when i upgraded to the Rebel. its amazing how great camera technology has some in 5 or 6 years..my point and shoot cannon was very large. They are soooo much smaller now. Thanks for all the suggestions..i think now its deciding on the differnt features...but glad to get some peoples advice on what they like and why. Thanks a bunch!!!
techwife- i'm leaving for italy on Aug 9th...can't wait..i need a vacation soooooooooo bad. |
