I am thinking about trying something new

  • Well I am about 1/3 of the way to goal. I am already trying to figure out how I will live life as a maintainer...gotta plan ahead ya know.

I am thinking about moving my scale into the kitchen...next to the fridge. I am a scale monitor (ok ok I obcess over it) everytime I go to the bathroom I check the numbers. I am thinking maybe if I put it next to the fridge when I am on maintainence, and weigh myself before I eat anything I will be less likely to eat things I shouldn't.
  • I write down everything I eat. Do you keep a food diary? That helps.
  • Honestly I will probably weigh myself every morning after I shower for the rest of my life. I find that it keeps me on track better than anything.

Then again, I am not a scale "obsesser" .. and I don't get freaked out or stressed over daily fluctuations. As long as I can see progress on the long term, I'm good.

But I think that as I move from loss into maintenance, I'll be more likely to not slide back into 10 lbs here and 10 lbs there if I'm monitoring my weight. More than 5lbs up and I'll know that I need to cut back for a little bit - or that I should see where I'm adding in too much over the long term. It's a solid method of being accountable for me, I think.

    .
  • A nice "before" picture on the frig worked wonders for me!
  • I have been maintaining for almost six months. In the past I could lose but couldn't maintain that loss. This time I am still counting calories, planning all meals ahead of time, keeping a food diary, weighing everyday.
It is not that difficult or time consuming to take these steps, and is preferable to losing the same pounds and more over and over again. I also posted two notes on my refrigerator one is : Do not sabotage your diet." The other is
" Being fat is hard, dieting is hard, maintaining is hard, choose your hard. " This is not original with me, but I find it is so true !.
  • As someone who lost a ton of weight and failed to maintain and had to start over again.... I have a "fat" pic of me on my fridge. I look at it every time I go to get something out. It stops me from grabbing the cake my roommate always makes and tries to get me to share.
  • I weigh every time I pass the scale, but I don't obcess it if is up or down a few tenths, over even a pound during the course of the day. I do it more as a reminder to stay on track. I have a dial scale and each month after my doc appointment I move the little markers so I can track in between doc appointments. I do log all my food and count calories.

I have lost many times, only to gain it back...just figured if I had that reminder in the kitchen I would be more apt to stay on track....although the scale right in front of the fridge would look strange.
  • I put mine right in front of the refrigerator. I can't get into the fridge without stepping on the scale...It's working so far.
  • Whatever works!!!
  • I keep my scale in the kitchen, but only because my bathrooms are carpeted, and that doesn't make for a proper surface. I never weigh throughout the day, just first thing in the morning (well, sometimes before bed, too!), but it does kind of help me mentally just knowing it's right there "watching me". LOL
