wow... all I can say is wow...

  • My daughter's principal called me at work today with some "exciting news".

I was expecting maybe she won an award... then I was told that she was chosen to fly to Disneyland for the day with the Dreams Take Flight charity.

The trip is fully funded through Dreams Take Flight. They will leave October 22nd at 6am, fly from Calgary to LAX airport. Spend the entire day at Disneyland and return back to Calgary by midnight.

Some of Calgary's Biggest starts are the founders of the charity.

The principal told me that she could choose 6 kids from the school, and she told me that my daughter Alyssa was the first one that came to mind.

I'm so excited for her and so thankful that this Charity is around to provide special days for special kids.

  • What a wonderful opportunity for your daughter... You must be very proud of her... being the first child they thought of is quite a compliment... That's going to be quite a day !!! I hope you have a great time...
  • Is this like the "make a wish foundation"? How did this come about? this is so cool!!!!!!! Congrats, she will really enjoy it!
  • That's wonderful!! I'm so happy for you What a wonderful compliment that your daughter was the first student the principal thought of! I hope she has a fantastic time!!

Very much like it - I believe Make a Wish foundation is more for chronically sick children

I had heard of it Dreams Take Flight, but It didn't dawn on me exactly what it was until the principal called me

I'm a little nervous about having her go alone - BUT it's fully supervised (we meet all of the volunteers/doctors/medical team) that go with them on the 4th of October.

On "the" day. They are met with many of the local "heros" - soldiers, sports teams etc to wish them a safe trip with games, giveaways songs etc. They are all provided with an outfit that they all need to wear so that they're easy to watch in a crowded amusement park.

Each child gets a chance to go to the cockpit and meet the captain prior to take off.

Games, songs, treats, movies etc during the flight

Once they arrive at the aiport, they're greeted by the LAPD and LAFD who give the kids a waterworks show (water works from the fire trucks), then escorts them to Disneyland. They are fed, bought treats, rides, games and given disposable cameras to take pictures of their special day.

    LOL I Wanna go! hehehe
  • Wow, what an honor! Congrats! How old is your little girl?

  • Outstanding TAMARALYNN! Gorgeous daughter just like her mom! Angie's dad was in the LAFD...we know all about those water shows!! He was on the harbor boats at the end of his career...awesome for your kiddo! Sounds like a week-long event! She is gonna be ti----"E"rrred! when she gets home!
  • She is beautiful! What a sweet smile!
  • Thanks guys!!!

They're packing this whole trip into one day. I go to the website and look at the photos... the kids are excited before boarding the plane, some are nervous, some estatic etc. When they all get there they're in awe. Then you see them having a blast at Disneyland... then sleepy kids zonked all over the plane on the flight back lol.
  • My youngest did this 5 years ago when she was 6. I think it was with the Sunshine Foundation. It was a day trip as well. We lived in NJ at the time. We went to Disneyworld Orlando.

All the children had one parent with them and one volunteer to assist them. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved. No waiting at the rides which saved a lot of time. We really enjoyed it.

Your daughter will have a wonderful time.
  • A few years ago, a friend of mine's twins were chosen for the dreams take flight trip. I remember her coming into work, just bawling b/c she'd never ever be able to take her kids to disneyland. (I'm tearing up, just thinking about how happy she was for her kids) The kids had such and amazing time, it was all they could talk about for months after they got back. Your daughter will have an awesome time.
