I have an upper molar broken ... most of the OLD filling came out, and one side of the tooth is broken to the gum. YES, I know I must call the dentist next week ... but, can they pull a tooth like that, or must they CUT () it out, if I don't have a crown put on? Thank you, all you dental experts!

Same thing happed to my DH a couple of years ago - he's too darn stubborn to go to the dentist to do something about it.

But Yes they can pull it out, don't you worry about it They'll numb it, use a gadget to push down on it to loosen it from the jaw then it comes out with ease. If worse comes to worse, they'll loosen it from the jaw, use a gadget to break it in half and it'll come out in two or three simple pieces.

yes they can pull it. You should look either into getting a root canal done on the tooth (the same thing happened to me and that's what they did) or having the tooth pulled and then a crown (fake tooth) put in its place. If you don't put something in he hole, you teeth will start to shift over time and you'll have a more problems down the road

You might just need to get a crown. I had 2 teeth break, lower molars. One tooth was mostly filling, and I bit down on a crunchy snack (corn nuts) and it broke off most of the tooth part.
I still have the roots intact on both teeth, but new crowns. They just give you novacaine, grind off the tooth (the worst part), then fit you with a temporary crown. In a week or 2, you go back in and they remove the temp and give you a nice new crown. It's not as bad as a root canal.

It's costly, though. We don't have dental insurance and each crown was about $700. Stupid corn nuts.........

You can also check the drug store/wal mart ect. A lot of times in the health and beauty isle they have emergency Temp crowns that should help with pain and last until you can get to the dentist without an EMERGENCY appt. Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm thinking half the tooth is gone, and I HOPE they can pull it without it breaking if I go that route. I will probably get a crown, but I cannot tell you how much I HATE getting those darned things!!!!
