Any Brass Banders?
Hellooo
Just wandering if there's anyone that plays in a brass band. Going to whit friday?:D Dread going to the pub after band with the pub snacks and pints :p Bored of a well known band forum recently ;) Discovered brass band radio yet and listened to it to be a proper band geek :carrot: sorry just realised this is a bit Englishy but you never know, I could be the only bander on here :o |
Well I wasn't in a brass band, but I was in a punk band and a ska band too at one point and also played hockey. After practices for each one, everyone liked to go out and eat and drink. It is hard when you don't want to go and have fun, but feel the pressure to eat and drink. Try swapping alcohol with water (1 alcohol, 1 water, 1 alcohol, 1 water, etc) and as for food, how about salads or soup?

You were in a cool band compared to mine:p
Ye it's the social things everyone does after band etc We've got a chinease meal outing next month with karaoke after. I already paid for it and everything and now dreading it, definitely going to be the biggest test. All you can eat chinease mmmmmmmmm NO :D |

Sorry marching band here, I play the piccolo/flute so was never able to be in a brass band. :)

I was never in a brass band, but used to play the trumpet and baritone in Middle School.

I auditioned for my college's Wind Ensemble last semester for fun and made it. I would love to participate again, but I just don't have the time. I may join a community band after my wedding, though. |
Flute was always my main instrument, but I also learned piano, clarinet, and alto sax. I also played the alto flute for some time in a flute choir. I wish I had time to play in the community wind ensemble, but after college my amount of free time dwindled down to almost nothing!

Marching band looks well hard.
We only do one event in the year where we have to march and I so can't so it. Breathing to march AND breathing to play...no chance. And we only march along the road mostly straight, americans do twirls and all sorts don't you? well I've only seen marching bands in films, so my perception may not be the most realistic :p |
It's really not that hard. I only marched on the football field one year in high school because after that I played the marimba and vibraphone (can't march with those). I was 5'8" and weighed around 190 and didn't have a problem. When marching in parades, we would sometimes stop when we played but also sometimes played while marching. You march so slow that it really isn't a problem with the breathing... depending on what you play I suppose. I don't think the tuba players liked it very much but when I marched I usually did flute or clarinet and never had a problem :)

I marched in college, in Texas (where they take this sort of thing really seriously;)) When I first got to camp, I struggled a LOT... our rehearsals were in the middle of the day, in Houston, in 100+ degree weather. We actually had to have EMT's at all of our rehearsals because kids would drop like flies. But once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun! We got to march in parades, at the Super Bowl, in some of college's best stadiums. It was a lot of hard work and I'll never regret doing it (although college in TX is a different thing;)) and it's a really good workout.
