I'm looking for something new -- I'm bad at discovering new artists. I really like Panic at the Disco's new song Nine in the Afternoon, but I didn't download the rest of the album because I listened to it on the Leak at Mtv.com and didn't like it enough, although I think it's one that would grow on me. I'm also listening to a Jason Mraz song called "I'm Yours" a lot. But that's about it! I need some new music! What are you loving?

"Mr. Jones" and August and Everything After...so I am listening non-stop to Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings. It's tasty.

Panic at the Disco ehhhh? You might want to look at some Sonata Arctica... I always find that fast stuff helps with cardio {try something like Victoria's Secret}...

oh yeah... and you might not be really into this, but I find anything by Daft Punk really helps as a motivator

I obviously have completeley different tastes since I've only even heard of one of those, but I've been loving Josh Groben's newest album recently. Also my hubby got me a cd of duets with Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald for V-Day that I'm still playing quite a bit.

Mhm...I like Panic at the Disco. I'm assuming you've heard their old album... I'm in love with My Chemical Romance but that's a little more punk. Their latest album, Black Parade, has some really good stuff on it though (I recommend 'House of Wolves' because I think it's ridiculously catchy). I also just recently got into Rise Against...LOVE them for running music...

This weekend I'm listening pretty much exclusively to my old Eels stuff because I can't wait for the concert tomorrow - some of my favorites are "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues", "I Like Birds", "Woman Driving Man Sleeping", "P.S. You Rock My World".

The one song that makes me cop silly dance moves in the streets these days is "Two Shoes" by Cat Empire. So much fun!

I love Jason Mraz as well, particulary "On Love, In Sadness" and "You and I Both". Bob Schneider has some songs in a similar style - I love "A Long Way to Get" and "Deep Blue Sea" right now.

Oh, and it seems I've got "Falling Slowly" stuck in my head permanently after seeing Once last weekend...

I could go on and on...

Anyone here like country? Right now I'm really liking Taylor Swift, especially "Our Song". She's 18 and writes all her own songs. Very talented.

Has anyone seen the movie The Darjeeling Limited? I want the sound track!!! I just saw it and the music is fabulous! "Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)" by Peter Sarstedt is one of the first songs you hear and I love it!

My album of choice in my mp3 player is from Hot Club of Detroit - self titled album.

I would like to like jazz. Somehow I always think it's classy to like jazz, opera and classical. I don't really know where is a good place. I need someone to recommend introductory pieces for me to listen to.
Besides country, I tend to like very unclassy things. My taste has been running to things my daughter likes, like Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical. Also Broadway. I listen to soundtracks a lot.

I just got R.E.M.'s new one - Accelerate. Really like it! Also listening to Amy Winehouse lately.

You have awoken the monster avi0903! Never mention you want to know more about classical music arround me unless you mean it. I wasn't a musicology (music history) major for nothing.

You said you like musicals - so for opera I'd tell you to start with the light stuff - even things like Phantom and Les Mis can be a starting place, Gilbert and Sulivan is always fun (you know - "I am the very model of a modern major general") and in English. Mozart has some comic operas that are quite accessible - The Magic Flute is always fun, and while I always prefer the original language, a translation can be helpful for when you're first getting your feet wet. I honestly find that Opera doesn't record well so if you get a chance go to a live performance - college music departments often have much cheaper tickets and quite good talent. I'm also a big fan of Bizet - if you like to hear bits and pieces you recognize Carmen is a good bet. I would definately suggest staying away from Wagner at first - that'd be like...like loosing your virginity with a porn star. (I don't even like Wagner - though I have a feeling metalheads and other loud music fans might if you gave him a chance)

As for instrumentals - for fans of lighter, friendlier, more cheerful music - my all time favorite is Chopin, but Haydn and Mozart are also great and easy to find. I love Chopin's nocturnes especialy. Boccherini is another happy soul - but a bit more obscure.
For you darker, brooding, louder, sorts - you can't beat Beethoven. Liszt or some of the more (relatively speaking anyway) modern guys like Stravinsky (he started a riot in Paris in 1913 with one of his ballets - its the "dinosaur piece" from Fantasia) - would also probably be good.

Now for jazz which I know alot less about - I'd say for a place to start - get some Billie Holiday and some Louis Armstrong - you can't go wrong with either of them. If you are really interested Ken Burns made a fantastic documentary on the history of Jazz. Super interesting and also a good way to find out what kind of jazz you like or don't like and who does it.

Loving The Pierces' "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge" cd. Two sisters with great voices, and a gothy-pop-folk style with catchy lyrics. I've been humming "But, two can keep a secret, if one of us is dead" for days!
