TV on DVD

Tell me some of your favorite shows that you have seen that you either caught while they were on tv, or you rented them after they hit dvd. I am looking for new shows to watch during the writers strike.

NotTheCheat 01-24-2008 11:13 PM

Dead Like Me
Wonderfalls
The 4400

I am currently watching Rome and enjoying it so far.

Lovely 01-24-2008 11:20 PM

Lost (lol which everyone but me has probably seen)
Dead Like Me
Heroes
Six Feet Under

Then for the Sci-Fi Person:
Farscape
StarGate SG1

Clydegirl 01-24-2008 11:27 PM

You have to watch The Wire. One of the best shows on TV.

suesully 01-24-2008 11:29 PM

I'm watching that old nighttime soap Dallas! (no laffin! :D) I loved it years ago but missed the final few years. I'm up to season 5 of 13.

Also watching The Wire. Only saw the first season on tv so now I'm looking at season 2.

Also been renting a lot of DVDs from Netflix...a lot of old classic tv shows from the 70s & 80s along with some movies too.

Next up is some of the series from HBO & Showtime as we don't subscribe to that anymore. There really is a TON of stuff out there to watch! :)

krissy1319 01-24-2008 11:38 PM

I love sex and the city but only saw it when I bought it on dvd. I also like gilmore girls, greys anatomy, october road, and friends.

Zen Pharmacy 01-25-2008 07:48 AM

Currently I'm netflixing Dexter, Dirt, and Carnivale.

I also ditto the Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me. I love anything Bryan Fuller has ever touched (especially Pushing Daisies).

tamaralynn 01-25-2008 08:03 AM

House
Simpsons
Family Guy
Scrubs
Survivor
Seinfeld
Futurama
Robot Chicken hehe (Don't know if it's on DVD, if so - please let me know)

Feeling Nostalgic?
MASH
Three's Company
Married with Children
Full House
X-Files
Family Matters
Fresh Prince (yeah will smith!)

scgirl32 01-25-2008 08:11 AM

I own every season of The Office, and despite the fact that I can probably recite most episodes now, I still watch it all the time. Heck, I watch it on tv and dvd. If there was some sort of Office puppet show, I'd probably watch that too. :)

Aside from that I also enjoy Scrubs (the early seasons especially). SportsNight is a show that was only on for two seasons about 6-7 years ago, but it's out on DVD and I highly recommend it. Don't let the "sports" part scare you off if you don't like sports. It's about folks making a sports news program. Sports don't really come into play.

In the non-comedy range, if you haven't seen it already, the first season of 24 is awesome. I love Prison Break too, and the first two seasons of that are out.

modkittn 01-25-2008 08:23 AM

LOST
Heroes
Ugly Betty
and LOST (seriously, it is my favorite show EVER made)

nelie 01-25-2008 09:43 AM

I don't have cable and detest commercials so I only watch TV shows on DVD.

Lost
Boston Legal
Buffy (I own the series)
Simpsons (own up to season 10)
Monk (own up to season 5)
Psych (similar to Monk)
House
Grey's Anatomy (although stopped at the end of season 2, got way too dumb, first season was good though)
Charmed
Rome (love it! too bad it ended after season 2)
Carnivale (very quirky show)
Xena (I used to watch this show all the time, I like rewatching some of the episodes)

Way old shows...
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Twilight Zone

I have a bunch of stuff in my queue I haven't watched yet like Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley and other shows.

Jen415 01-25-2008 10:45 AM

Let's see....

The Office (UK version--I own these)
The Office (US version--I own these)
Nip/Tuck
Little Britain
The Royle Family (a British sitcom that is HILARIOUS!)
Big Love
The Sopranos
Sex and the City
Lots more!!!!

I rented Dexter as well, and throughly enjoyed it. Can't wait for season 2 to come out.

Also Dexter, Weeds (questionable content but SO GOOD!).... I'm on a Sopranos kick right now. I tend to plow through a few seasons at a time. You get sucked in like that ;)

alinnell 01-25-2008 11:30 AM

DD has almost every year of the Gilmore Girls. Other than that we haven't bought any TV shows (although I'm thinking of getting the first 2 seasons of Three Sheets).

Amy8888 01-25-2008 01:40 PM

I watched the 7th Season of Gilmore Girls on DVD (our satellite provider didn't carry the CW). I'm watching Popular on DVD and I have Gross Pointe, both WB shows from years ago, on my Netflix cue. I'll probably get future seasons of Big Love on HBO, since I like that show but don't want to sign up for HBO anymore.

Rosario 01-25-2008 04:50 PM

My So-Called Life (I was very upset to learn they only made 19 episodes!)
Sopranos
Beverly Hills, 90210 (I just got thru season 1)

Indeed. :)

Re: Farscape - for some weird reason the studio has recalled the first season and you can't get it right now.

nelie 01-25-2008 05:12 PM

I would also recommend the british version of The Office. I wouldn't recommend the american version though.

murphmitch 01-25-2008 08:52 PM

My son rents Veronica Mars & the Roswell series and I really enjoy watching them too.

alliegater 02-05-2008 07:28 PM

I'm a big fan of House, Dead Like Me (there's only 2 seasons :( ), Scrubs, and if it's your thing South Park

Zen Pharmacy 02-05-2008 07:37 PM

Alliegater: They are in the process of a straight to DVD movie that takes place two years after the last episode of Dead Like Me.

Pretty much all my Netflix Queue is TV shows. Some I've seen and some I haven't.

Let's see....

The Office (U.S. version. I recently discovered this and am OBSESSED),The X-files (to get me excited for the movie.), Animaniacs (ah, the memories),
Jeeves and Wooster, Monty Python, Arrested Development, Scrubs,The Monkees (I loved them when I was in junior high), Coupling, Little Britain,
I am looking forward to seeing Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls (Yes, because of the joy that is Pushing Daisies), Robot Chicken, and to end my (incomplete ;)) list, The Riches. Those are just the ones in my Queue that I'm most excited about. Guess I've got a lot of DVD viewing in my future.

NotTheCheat 02-12-2008 12:14 AM

Jeeves and Wooster is AWESOME. I am totally in love with PG Wodehouse now.

Hat Trick 02-22-2008 02:28 PM

Alias should be in everyones collection. The ultimate uber spy. My fav show.

Jericho is a great show and it's got Skeet Ulrich. They cancelled it but the fans fought (sent TONS and TONS of peanuts to TBTB) - they bought it back for a mini second season. Hoping it gets picked up.

Friday Night Lights - Again, fantastic show, critically acclaimed and all that jazz (ratings not so high) and its got Kyle Chandler.

Anything Python. You'll burn calories while laughing your brains out!

MonteCristo 04-18-2008 03:17 PM

I don't have regular TV, so I only watch shows on DVD. Here are my favorite shows.
-Cheers
-Frasier
-Seinfeld
-Remington Steele
-Star Trek (The Original Series)
-The Bill Cosby Show
-M*A*S*H
