ughh.. Sorry that happened to you especially on your anniversary dinner! I've always had a very sensitive nose. There are times I will smell something a good 5 minutes before everybody that I'm with does and by the time everybody else starts smelling it I'm usually sick to my stomach. I really try not to use heavy perfumes myself. I've actually stopped using perfume and switched to a light body spray from Bath and Body works and I only spray one time. I get so many compliments from it.

You know I thought of this thread today while at Wally World...this girl had the worst cologne on, ick! We went in at the same time and ended up on the same aisle or an aisle or two over and her smell carried...no offense to anyone, but it smelled like some cheap cologne...and she poured the whole stinking bottle on her. I honestly don't know how these people can't smell themselves, or they do and they love it, lol.
But this thread got me to thinking and wondering if I put too much on. I layer it and when I put it on it smells so good and a little much, but after a few minutes I can't smell it. So I asked others if my perfume was strong/overpowering to them, fortunately it wasn't. They could smell it but had to get close so I am good, lol. But it's pretty bad when you can smell someone two aisles over in the store. |

I remember walking to high school (18+ years ago) with my girlfriends, we always got stuck walking behind this gal walking by herself. We called her "Georgie girl" because even when she was in front of us 10 houses away, we could smell her Giorgio (or the cheap drugstore imitation brand) perfume wafting back at us. GAG! Ugh, just thinking about it makes me wrinkle my nose and I think I can actually "taste" it, do you know what I mean? Pfew!
ps. Happy belated anniversary Mare  |
What a crabby thing to have happen on your anniversary. :(
I honestly don't understand how people who overuse perfume/cologne can't tell. I'm actually a really big perfume fan, but only when it's subtle - because there are some perfumes that will always remind me of certain people. Every time I smell Burberry "Weekend", I think of my cousin, and J'Adore by Dior reminds me so much of my mother, it's crazy. So I don't think there's anything wrong with artificial scent per se, but like anything else it can be either used or abused. |
Since I used to work in an industry where perfume and scented lotion could get you "in trouble" I never wear it. I used to work at a winery and smells like that can dull the palate of wines.
Of course I'm also allergic to most scents. Lavender is about all I can handle these days, although I used to like Angel. It would be nice if people would remember "a little dab will do ya!" Happy Belated Anniversary Mare! |
My MIL puts on the whole bottle of Design perfume, can't stand that stuff now, I remember a great many times having to ride in the car with her and rolling down the window in the middle of winter. This is the same lady who claims she is allergic to scents and powders and things. I can't stand that scent that a lot earthy hippy people wear, starts with a P and it stinks like nobody's business.
