What is something you've always wanted for $2 or less?

Silly question, I know. We've been asked to fill out surveys for a Secret Santa exchange at work, and this is one of the questions. They don't pay that well here, but if I want something for $2 or less I'll buy it! Anyway, got any creative suggestions? (I thought it would be funny to put embarrassing things that you COULD buy but were afraid to.)

My birthday is in December and my hubby and I always take a trip to Las Vegas right after Christmas. My sister once gave me a b-day card with a little round package taped to the envelope--it was a disposable panty. She wrote "for when you crap out in Vegas". Gross, I know, but funny as heck too! If that's not embarrassing, I don't know what is, especially for a Secret Santa.

Seriously though, for $2? You could get a big candy bar and use your computer to make a personalized wrapper. People seem to like things you've put a little thought into--and beats getting disposable undies. :o

LOL that's funny Meleka.
Hmm $2 is a hard one. Personally my favorite purchase for under $2 is either a Woman's World Magazine or Quick and Simple but not really a good gift.
Maybe you can go to the dollar store and pick up a cute Christmas themed mug and fill it with some chocolates, and a pack of hot cocoa. Better yet, if you have any leftover holiday tins from last year you can fill it with treats.

some gum or mints? chapstick ( always a must for me, I have about 3 tubes in my purse )

A purse-sized (travel-sized) tube of an inexpensive hand lotion, maybe Vaseline Intensive Care.

At our TOPS meeting we're planning a Christmas auction. We started it a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. Everyone had to bring a $1 gift, and then every week until our last meeting before Christmas anyone who has a gain has to bring a $1 gift. My husband and I each had one gain, so we've bought 4 gifts so far in three trips to the dollar store (Dollar Tree).

There are some surprisingly cute things in there. We bought a snowflake patterned glass plate, soup bowl, and mug that all match, and a teddybear figurine dressed up as a fireman. My family has swithched to presents only for the kids and we often do a $3 gift from each adult to do a gift game (we draw numbers to take turns and at your turn you can pick a new gift or steal from someone else. The first person to pick a gift at the end gets to steal anyone's gift). The gifts have ranged from useful to obnoxious. The first year we were married, my husband and I bought an incredibly ugly ceramic angel (which now makes the rounds as a "special gift" each year). Bath stuff (loofa and scrubby sponges, bath gels...), vintage tea cups (church and charity gift shops are great for this, as some beautiful china will be marked at only a $1 a piece, especially if there isn't a complete set).

Thanks for the suggestions so far, and I'll keep them in mind later, but I'd like to clarify: I'm not looking for a gift yet, I'm just looking for more suggestions of what I could put down on the survey for something I'd like for $2 or less. So if you can personally imagine something you need/love that costs less than $2, let me know! Or something that would be funny for someone else to have to buy. (The disposable panties are pretty funny, but I don't think it would work in my office!)

lottery ticket?

shelby897 11-29-2007 03:24 PM

Gag gifts -- ear plugs/"No-doze", aspirin for those boring meetings -- any type of cute key chains/signs you can find at the dollar store -- the ones that say obnoxious (spellling?) things, maybe a plant for your desk (if you have one :D).

Spinymouse 11-29-2007 03:53 PM

Do you guys have "two-buck-chuck" out there?

StillTryin 11-29-2007 04:27 PM

cute pair of socks or glass coaster

melekalikimaka 11-29-2007 04:31 PM

I would personally love a lottery ticket, but we're one of the few states where gambling is illegal . How about a crossword or word find-type puzzle book?

I like your gag gift suggestions Shelby

Colleen, we had a similar "special gift" going around my office year after year--it was a picture of one of the bosses when he was in high school, all slim and trim (when in reality it was 30+ years later and he was rather rotund but still thought he was God's gift to women) A little mean, but it was only between us office gals.

Candles, herbal tea, picture frames, lotions, dark chocolate, water bottle, bookmark, zippered pouches - assorted sizes (I organize my purse, briefcase, luggage with the clear ones - I LOVE them), earrings

tamaralynn 11-29-2007 07:35 PM

Candle holders :) Some pretty stained glass ones filled with some candies wrapped in pretty cellophane.
