Default Las Vegas Anyone?

Has anyone visited LV recently?Where did you stay, and what did you think of your hotel? I am planning to go next month, meeting a couple of cousins from different parts of the country. We want to stay on the Strip. Last time I went we stayed at MGM, but someone else paid. I want something not quite as pricey as I gotta pay this time.Don't want the Roach Motel either.

If it is one of our cheaper trips, Angie and I usually stay at the Luxor. Easy for us to walk or tram anywhere we want. Have a good time.

Definitey on the cheap end but we stayed at Stardust last time. Nice and clean and everything, but definitely does not have the amenities of some of the pricier options. If you're not worried about a pool it might be an option, and it's within walking distance of all the bigger casinos.

I've been to Vegas so many times I've lost count. I've stayed at the MGM, Stardust, Rio, Harrahs, California, Imperial and a few others. My favorite is the Golden Nugget on the old strip. It's a reasonably priced hotel and is four stars. If you're worried about money I would stay on the old strip. If you're driving or renting a car it's easy to get from the old strip to the new strip and every hotel has free self parking. I also find that the casinos on the old strip tend to pay out better than the Caesars, Mirages and Venetians.

On the new strip, Excalibur tends to be cheap but I've never stayed there myself and it's located by the MGM, Luxor etc. The opposite end of the strip has the Stardust and Circus Circus both reasonably priced and located within walking distance of Caesars, Mirage and TI. The Imperial Palace is across from Caesars but it is a pretty ##4343 hotel. Totally not worth the location even if it's cheaply priced.
I would vote for the Stardust if you don't mind walking and can't rent a car. Nice hotel, pretty decent rooms and right across the street there's a food court at the Riviera. The casino at the Riviera is decent if you like slots.

On our last trip (in April or early May) we stayed at the Venetian. What a beautiful place! The room was wonderful! We had dinner at Batista's Hole in the Wall--great funky place for Italian.
On prior trips, we've stayed at the Mirage (nice) and Harrah's (older but nice).

Went in June and stayed at the New York, New York. It was very nice (I think most of them are) but the room was resonably priced and it was within walking distance to everything we needed. I am hoping to go back in November...I love going to LV.

Just a note, the Stardust at the north end of the strip is no longer there . They closed it at the end of last year and it was imploded on March 13, 2007. Las Vegas is a #1 vacation destination for those of us from Hawaii, we call it the 9th island since so many of us travel out there several times a year and there are so many Hawaii people who have relocated there. I can't go there and not see someone I know from home

I have stayed at the Flamingo--great location at the center of the strip where you can walk in either direction to visit other hotels and shops; the MGM Grand, really nice but SOOOOOO big and the walk from your room to the elevator is a nice cardio workout in itself; the Gold Coast (just a little ways off the strip next to the Rio and the Rio. I've also stayed at the Hacienda which was closed to make way for the Mandalay Bay.

Normally we stay downtown because a local travel agency down here has really cheap package deals with meals and transfers included. Downtown hotels (i.e. The Fremont, California, Golden Nugget, Four Queens, etc.) are generally a lot more inexpensive and we just grab a car and park for free at any of the strip hotels when we want to have a look around.

Have you tried a local travel agent (or have these people gone the way of the dinosaurs? ) or maybe just going online yourself to a website like travelocity? I booked a great deal for the MGM online on my own, even though my own sister is a travel agent. GOod luck and have fun!! Just talking about it makes me want to hop on a plane and go right now.

I've stayed at the New York, New York. It was a very nice room and a very nice price. Don't know much about payouts because I really didn't gamble much.

melekalikimaka - which island do you live on? I don't want to ruin the Vegas thread, but I am traveling to Waikiki in a couple of weeks. I'll start a new thread.

Mele-That's so funny, that's why I've been to Vegas soo many times too! I think us Hawai'i folk are groomed from hana bata days. I think my first trip to Vegas was when I was 6. No gambling but man was wet -n- wild fun. I had no idea they closed Stardust I stayed there about 3 years ago. I haven't been to Vegas in about a 1 1/2 years and so totally jonesing. lol
Fannie- I'm from O'ahu, grew up on the windward side (Waimanalo) that's where sea life park is and then moved to Ewa on the Leeward side. That's where the horrendous traffic is. lol My advice on your trip avoid FT Weaver RD.
