Even with Mom's death there is some humor
The evening my mom died, I was trying to call my DD at work to tell her about it. She'd said that she wanted to know so she could take a few moments alone and pray. For some reason, I'd transposed a number and got a disconnect message. I called her son to get her work number. I didn't tell him what had happened. I felt she should be there when she told him. The day after my mom passed my DD called me to check on me. She told me a what happened when she got home from work. I really needed that laugh.
The conversation below is between my DD and her son. DD arrived home from work and was tearful. Her son asked what was wrong. DD - Grandma died. GS - When? How? Why? - very alarmed. DD - You knew it was going to happen. GS - No I didn't! DD - We've been expecting it. GS - No we haven't! DD - She was very sick. GS - She was? No she wasn't! GS - I just spoke with her on the phone. DD realized he was confused. DD - My Grandma died. Grandma M____. GS - OH! YOUR Grandma. My Great Grandma. That's OK. She's been sick. I had to laugh at that one. Bless his heart. He was very happy to see me when I got back home. He's 13. |
Mare--maybe he was so frightened because he thought you had called him from the "other side!" LOL

ah Mare, that must've been a shock to your grandson! I often overlook the relationship difference in conversations like that with my boy when I refer to my grandma, he thinks I'm talking about my mom (his g-ma). We're all glad, as is he, that you are alive and well. I'm sure your mom had a chuckle about it too

Hey MARE I figured this out "early" in the story...being used to explaining to my kids...their grandma or mine. Cute story.
