I haven't had a hot dog in YEARS, but when I DID eat hotdogs I liked them two ways -plain in a bun grilled with butter (like I used to get them at Howard Johnson's as a kid ) OR with chili, mustard, onions AND a side of fries as we ate them in college. A rum and Coke completed my chilidog experience! Mmmmmmmm! I can TASTE those dogs right now!

I'm not much of a hot dog eater, but a word of advice from any hillbillies visiting Vegas. Do NOT order a hot dog with the standard fare...you know...chili, pickle relish, cole slaw and mustard. What you get is a weiner on a bun with a bowl of bean chili on the side, a side of dill pickle slices and slaw? They haven't heard of it.

Brown mustard and kraut would be my favorite (on a veggie dog~can't stomach the other kinds.)
Sockmonkey~ I too have put mayo on my dogs (usually with onions, dill relish, & mustard ~ never ketchup.) But that's not my FAVORITE, that would be what I mentioned above. Although I eat very little mayo these days... |
Natalia - BBQ sauce w/ eggs??? LOL. Doesn't sound good to me,but to each his or her own. I'm glad to see someone else likes tartar sauce w/ fries (and tater-tots!!). I thought I was the only weird one!
I also like chili, cheese, and onions! Kerri |
Ketchup, mustard, onions and saurkraut. I usually only get them at Costco- lol.
Fries- homemade with fry sauce is the best!! And I have to say- I'm in Alberta and I've never seen poutine offered w/ketchup :p |
Actually, BBQ sauce with eggs makes a certain amount of sense. Seems to me that any tomato-based sauce works well with eggs. When I was a kid, our dad would occasionally make himself a late-night sandwich. It was scrambled egg with ketchup and dill pickle slices; no, not all mixed up. Just a fried egg sandwich with the two condiments. (And this was back in the early 1960's, decades before lengthwise pickle "sandwich slices" were around--he would slice his own.)
My sister & I appreciated the smell of the butter melting as he fried the eggs, but the ketchup & pickles were "ewwww" to our tender (read: unsophisticated) grade-school palates. He was tired of hearing our kiddy disgust noises, and would always offer a bite, which we would refuse, until.... One night, we finally said, "O-kay," and did take a bite--and found we liked it so much, that from then on, whenever he'd make himself one, he'd have to make three!--one for each of us! (Fortunately for our weight, this didn't happen very often.) Ever since then, I know that ketchup on eggs is a good thing, though I usually don't do that. I enjoy salsa with eggs when I'm out traveling, and I like barbecue sauce, too. So I can see that BBQ sauce with eggs would indeed work; I might even try it soon. What I'm unfamiliar with--and I daresay many other Americaines, too--is "fry sauce"? What is fry sauce? Educate us, notres Canadiennes, s'il vous plait! (And yes, jelynn, I realize that B.C is on the west coast, the opposite side of North America from Quebec province. I just enjoy knocking the dust off my HS French now and then!) |
Chili, cheese and onions!! Yum-O!:dizzy:
